Australia's major political parties keep detailed records on everyone over-17 thanks to voting themselves unfettered access to the Australian Electoral Commission's fastidiously maintained electoral roll, which they map to anything else they can get their hands on, then supply to micro-targetting ad firms who are far more sophisticated than 'Russian Bots.'

Major parties can do all this without any concern for the Privacy Act, because they voted themselves exempt to that as well.

And yet despite these unscrupulous methods and tactics, their primary vote inexorably shrinks each election.
