Ever since big tech bent their knees to America's regime, I've started to move away from proprietary software and hardware, which includes switching from macOS+Capture One to Linux+#darktable.

There were several times when I was like "f*ck it, what am I doing here?!" while trying to get around some of darktable's, ah, shall we say, idiosyncrasies.

But I keep on biting my way through, and I have to admit, I'm more proud of the results than I would have been in my old #photography workflow.
two factories with chimneys blowing smoke into the air
a running herd of mini shetland ponies
a runner duck cleansing her feathers
a foggy valley with a range of hills in the distance. a church tower is sticking out of the dense fog.

You are making a very wise choice! 🙂 I am from the U.S.A., didn’t vote for Trump, & watch helplessly as the political landscape around me continues to change is scary ways. Staying as close as you can to open standards, with open source software, will keep you from being screwed over by big tech, which kisses up to whoever is in charge politically. I love open source, & I use Linux for everything! It’s a great operating system! Give yourself time with it. You will love it!
way to go! Darktable is all about finding a set of tutorials that match your brains. And then it becomes second nature, if you find the right one.
BTW, love that deep blue hue on the sky with the two factories.
Nice! Darktable takes a bit to get the hang of, but I think most stuff aimed at pros does.

Library management is the thing I most wish they'd improve, the actual photo editing stuff is IMO excellent.
