If you find yourself in Madrid of a Sunday morning in the mood for jazz in a speakeasyish atmosphere, I can recommend the Tropical Moon Jazz Band residency at Sala Clamores:

They're having a lot of fun and it's infectious.

Here, have some smoky jazz from Brooklyn. It's relaxed but not slow. Featuring Miles Davis, Peter Thomas Sound Orchester, Nautilus, Bob James and many more. Courtesy of Oonops Drops and Brooklyn Radio.

An LP a day - for no other reason than I love my records - No.63

Thelonius Monk. Genius of Modern Music Vol.1

This modern jazz masterpiece (Vol.2 is great too) is the 'ur text' of so much modern jazz it's startling. Eventually most tracks become jazz standards & so often covered, so here are Monk's earliest versions -as the title says: genius!

Standout tracks:
Round about Midnight - the Monk sound in a capsule!
Well you Needn't - so often covered...
(but every track's great!)

“I showed up the following Monday promptly at two to find the bar mostly empty and miraculously quiet. The bartender handed me a card that listed the six #records he'd be playing with informative and well-written descriptions, a kind of record menu for a session titled ‘Spiritual & Ambient Jazz’” — A largely fruitless search for an American “kissa” https://www.stereophile.com/content/brilliant-corners-8-can-kissa151jazz-listening-parlors151work-us #jazz #kissa #audiophile #vinyl #music #nyc
