So, AirBnB has a promotion—excuse me, I mean generous, humanitarian offer—to house evacuees of the #LAFires for free. Did you know that most AirBnBs in Los Angeles are illegal? That they drive up housing costs by keeping rental units permanently vacant? That there is next to zero enforcement by the city (which, coincidentally has a city council comprised almost entirely of landlords)?

Not that I would encourage anyone to book a place who doesn't genuinely need it in this moment, but if you or someone you know is in the position of needing to take advantage of this offer, there is a grassroots illegal short-term rental mapping project that you should absolutely use.
