Today I learned that Charles Foussard spent 70 years and 303 days in custody in Ararat, Victoria (Australia) between 1903 and 1974 for killing an old man and stealing his boots, making him the prisoner with the longest effective incarceration. He died while still incarcerated.

TIL “Blame it on the Boogie” famously sung by Michael Jackson as part of the Jacksons in 1978 was originally written by Mick Jackson, a white soul singer in 1977. Also both versions were released in September 1978 which meant two different Jacksons charted with the same song at the same time.

TIL of 1996 Gangneung submarine infiltration incident, where a failed attempt by North Korean forces to extract a recon team by submarine led to a 49 day manhunt across the city of Gangneung, with some of the 39 man crew believed to have succeeded in returning to North Korea.
