Syria's rebels have broadcast a message from the state-run television station and over Damascus Radio, claiming they have ended Bashar al-Assad's rule and freed political prisoners.

Fighters were are calling on "the mujahidin and citizens to preserve the property of the state of free Syria.

Long live Syria, free and proud. To all Syrians, whatever their sect."
Crowds are gathering at the now closed Syria-Lebanon border as people wait to return home. Many fled to Lebanon after the Syrian civil war began in 2011.
People who were in Lebanon have long awaited this moment to return home freely. At the crossing, some were chanting revolutionary and freedom songs while holding the opposition's flag.
Iranian media reports that Tehran's embassy in Damascus has been attacked.

Al Arabiya shows damage to the exterior, incl broken windows, rooms in disarray with papers scattered.

Footage also shows images on the building of Qasem Soleimani and Hassan Nasrallah being torn by a crowd.
Israel has sent reinforcements to the occupied Golan Heights which has a border with Syria

UAE has said it remains “very worried” by threats to the territorial integrity of Syria and the risk that the country may succumb to extremism and terrorism.
“Syria is still not out of the woods,” said Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the President of the UAE
Syria PM Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali has said the country should hold free elections. He mentioned having been in contact with Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani regarding the transition. Al-Arabiya quoted him saying his last contact with Bashar al-Assad was "yesterday evening" and that he has no information on Assad's current whereabouts.
Estimates of the total number of deaths in the Syrian Civil War are well over half a million people. By Sep 2021 the UN had documented the verifiable deaths of at least 350,209 "identified individuals" in the conflict between March 2011 and March 2021, but cautioned the figure was "certainly an undercount"
