Got a question someone posed for a tutorial which has me stumped. Come across this one
@FediTips?

"Is there a way to reply to a PeerTube comment using a Masto account on a user that you were not following when the video was published?"

Basically, if you come across a comment on an old PeerTube video, how do you reply without creating an account on that instance?

I've been looking for extensions and PeerTube plugins without finding anything.

take the video link and paste it in mastodon search bar you'll find the video.
I do this all the time! If the link doesn't turn up, then ensure that you use the link from the share button and that you don't accidentally use the playlist link.

Alternatively most servers should offer you a "remote comment" option where you can put in your username and it does the described thing for you.

Sorry, i missed your point.

Replying to a comment to a video is much more tricky -_- I think you can fav the video to force load all comments and then reply to the comment shown like a toot.

I did give up on an old comment, that did not get loaded to my instance, though -_-

yes exactly.
I'm trying out the favouriting, kind of skeptical though.
good luck, i hope i didn't waste your time.

I can't wait for that "mastodon will show all comments to a post" feature -_-
oh not at all.
I actually think I figured it out.
The date link gives you a thread ID that works in masto search.

Yup, was just going to suggest this. Generally clicking a timestamp on Fediverse posts usually gets you a URL that will work in the Mastodon search box to force federation to happen.

It's possible the video URL is enough too.

Also, Mastodon's nightly is currently testing backfilling for threads and I assume this will backfill comments on PeerTube videos too? (I'm not 100% sure on that part though.)

I hope so.
PeerTube installs aren’t very resource hungry when idling, seems they have the capacity.
Tight integration for the purpose of commenting seems like the way the average person wants to interact with PeerTube when they’re just a viewer.
