Texas becomes the latest State to propose a mask ban (while in the midst of a measles outbreak that’s currently over 100 cases).

These are ugly laws. They’re discriminatory & push disabled people further out of society. They increase the likelihood of police harassment. They paint maskers as “bad”.

There’s an excellent document with scripts for how to call & fight back! 🧵 1/2

Many of these bans have “medical exemptions” baked in that are woefully inadequate. They make the act of masking a crime and put the onus on the masker to “prove” they’re doing it for the right reasons.

They leave people behind. Many folks are masking because they want to stay healthy, but they don’t currently have a disability. Can they mask? What about caregivers of people with disabilities? People masking for smoke and pollen?

These are all grey areas in the law, which is why these bans are dangerous. They will discourage masking and encouragement the harassment of those still doing their part to stop the spread of Covid.

For more on why medical exemptions aren’t good enough, my article on the Nassau County ban explores in greater detail:

They can kiss the fattest part of my ass. My body, my choice, right?
I find it maddening that everyone who screamed out their “freedom” during mask mandates are now silent on bans. Seems they were really about bodily autonomy after all.
