- Apps in fedi are usually a server (mastodon, gotosocial, pixelfed) and UI (mastodon mobile app, mammoth, elk web app) pair, the account lives on the server and you can swap UIs for the same app

- Activitypub has a lot of features but not every server uses all of them

- Activitypub is also vague about some features so there can be variations on the ‘same’ feature (because mastodon is the biggest app it acts as a defacto standard in a way that makes some people annoyed)

Would just be really cool to be able to switch UI's like skins on e.g. mediawiki/wikipedia. This should be technically possible somehow AFAICT
