My contribution is to repeat the advice I once got when I asked "How do I know what to describe in a picture? I don't want to overwhelm with unnecessary detail but also not miss important info."
The answer was beautiful and simple:
Imagine you're telling a dear friend on the phone what you are seeing.
That's it.
What's important is what you would want your friend to know about the picture.
