Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a pediatrician, was kidnapped from Kamal Adwan Hospital and was finally allowed to meet with his lawyer for the first time since his arbitrary detention 47 days prior. When he was kidnapped, he was forcibly stripped and has suffered severe torture including beatings with batons, electric shock sticks, and repeated blows to the chest. He was held in solitary confinement for 25 days. He has been starved and has lost 12kg (>12% of his body mass) in less than 2 months. He has heart muscle enlargement and has been denied access to medical care despite repeated requests. Dr Hussam Abu Safiya is a doctor who is being illegally detained and tortured for the crime of providing life saving medical care to Palestinians undergoing a genocide.
