Heh! No worries. The best part about using a computer is that I have a folder full of GIF animations to upload and share. But I do appreciate the sentiment. I await whatever GIF you share.

the irony of all of this is while I made my account in the US, I'm currently in the UK, with a UK phone number and the UK Apple Store and I still got booted from TT today... *sigh* Thought I had all my bases covered, but apparently not.

Full disclosure - I mostly use Bsky because the UK news is there, but prefer the Fediverse and want it to work. Need to set up a proper brid.gy account. It just takes a bit of time/work to get your feed going here and I think that, more than servers, is the main barrier. People think it's quiet because you don't automatically get a firehose of Content on arrival.

I think the big platforms are becoming so obviously problematic now, and people are getting more aware of the possibility of getting booted from wherever they are, that decentralisation will keep growing. We've got used to getting served everything on a platter (at great social cost), but maybe that will become less normalised. Fingers crossed anyway!

I also like the interoperability. I follow a lot of Lemmy (fedi-Reddit) chats on here, and now more TikTok people are using Pixelfed I'm hoping to get a few of them - although I've also found out I can log onto pixelfed using my Mastodon account. Not that I take photos but it's nice to see different setups!

I honestly have no idea how this system works - it's a little overwhelming as it's so different having everything interconnected - once I've got my account I'll have to figure it all out!

the main thing to remember is that your server runs the rules for you - you're on Gmail, I'm on Hotmail; your admin chooses which other servers are banned and what behaviour is allowed. You build your own algorithm by following people, hashtags and feeds. Favourites are more like bookmarks; if you want to increase the reach of a post you see you have to boost (repost) it. The biggest difference/complaint has always been you can't quote-boost(/"stitch" I guess?)...

which is intentional to reduce pile-ons but does limit the conversation a bit. It'll be interesting as there's a big change happening to the way it's all run at the moment - it was all set up by one guy but he's stepping back into a programming role, finding a CEO and transferring it all into more of a trust setup.

If you can't access your account for any reason, there is a public email address on your server's website that you can contact. The admin at your server can fix things if there's a mistyped email or whatever.

Which server is your other account on? Is it the same as your current account?
