On the surface, in govt and business, #Japan is an extremely polite country. To the point that people from other countries have difficulty parsing disapproval and rejection since the verbiage is subtle

With that in mind, listen to #ShinjiOguma of the House of Reps talking about #Trump and his galaxy brain #tariff bs

😂😂😂

"a delinquent kid extorting someone"

Shinji even name drops #RoyCohn 😲

longer video (original #Japanese with subtitles) for the full acid take down:

Excellent! We need more of this. A coalition of the reasonable, to counter Trump's bullying and extortion.

Does anyone know which documentaries he's referring to?
it's not a documentary but delves into true events

and i haven't seen it

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Apprentice_(2024_film)

but it details #trump's relationship with #royCohn, which is a true relationship

and you can see how the established tactics of roy cohn, from the #mccarthy era of #us #history, shapes #trump's tactics today

Thanks! I'm going to watch it if I can find it.
it's on my to-watch list

i haven't seen it yet because everything presented i already knew about #trump: us from the #newYorkCity area of a certain age always knew trump was a piece of shit. and we've watched horrified as the tv "reality" series "#theApprentice" conned millions of gullible americans into thinking trump was a business genius

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Apprentice_(American_TV_series)

most of the sane world hates trump now

us from #nyc, we hated trump already in the 1980s as a #racist con man

I recall reading an insider article taking about The Apprentice, talking among other things about how many times they had to retcon "reasons" and "cause" for why Trump fired the best candidate on the show, when everyone on the show knew the REAL reason was because that candidate was the best and Trump couldn't break out even for his own show from seeing anyone with actual talent as a threat.
Ouch! What kind of world do we live in, that he somehow gained some kind of success and even became president... Twice! These people are really bottom of the barrel and by rights should remain there.
#trump is but a reflection of #american society

it doesn't matter what trump is. there's always been people like trump

the true tragedy is that his shit personality *appeals* to so many americans

true grit, true maturity, is not rewarded in hyper#capitalism

bullying and lying is

trump is a merely the embodiment of the #usa's decline into #authoritarian #plutocracy

"yeah but the #us has always been like that"

there's always worse

this is definitely worse

In the past there were the Know-Nothings, the John Birch Society, the KKK, etc. but the peril to democracy has not been this extreme since the Civil War. I think what is different now is instant gratification of mass media and social media. It offers endless and unremitting reinforcement that is scientifically designed to stimulate dopamine and cortisol, keeping people in a state of perpetual anxiety. This easily short-circuits reason and promotes mob behavior.
#socialMedia also moves the "center of attention"

old media: newspapers, tv, radio, it's always been manipulated. but it at least had the pretense of civility. this standard no longer holds as old media fades away and everyone is on social media accepting lying bigoted edgelord trolls as the center of attention

so #bigotry is nothing new, but it is amplified like never before

in this way, #trump is nothing more than our first internet #troll president
We also have good people who are locked into believing every action needs an immediate consequence or it's invalid.

E.g., Trump wasn't indicted fast enough, so they decided Dems will never win.

And they called their senators and attended a protest, and still MAGA exists, therefore protests and phone calls aren't working.

I am scared by the existence of this mentality because it's so grossly irrational, destructive, and prevalent.
