The UK's Investigatory Powers Act has way too much power. By forcing Apple to remove its encryption for UK users, it threatens the #privacy of everyone.

We at Tuta would never build a backdoor - and our #opensource code is proof of that.

Apple removes cloud encryption for UK users - but there's a grain of hope.
The obvious countermeasure to any ban on network/cloud support of encryption is to only let them handle locally encrypted files.

If you need a cloud backup, take a local backup, and store it in an encrypted file such as an encrypted tarball or an encrypted filesystem image(which can be loopback mounted). Use a passphrase used nowhere else, assuming the Enemy will chew on this file attempting both to crack it and hoping the passphrase might unlock your phone or computer after any raid.

About the UK key disclosure law: in my community, complying with this would be considered snitching on everyone I communicate with. It is your DUTY not just right to defy laws requiring you to help enemies lock up your friends. There's only one way to fight key disclosure demands or grand jury subpeonas: with no quarter asked and none given.
