A small thread of the weird old Christmas cards that didn't make it into the #MyfanwyAndFriend advent calendar.

Surely this would be an obvious choice given the chicken theme, but no, for two main reasons. First up THEY'RE EATING EGGS FOR BREAKFAST. What kind of monsters are they? And second, I could replace the hen with Myfanwy, but where could Friend be inserted? There is no good solution here.

An illustration of a hen and cockerel in a B&B bed eating breakfast of egg and toast and coffee, looking at each other. It says A happy Christmas at the top.
Couldn't he have been serving breakfast?
See, in theory that should work, but everything ended up looking... troubling 😆
You have no idea how many times I pulled up this image. I mean, it's already chicken themed. Sort of. But here's my big discovery: there is NO WAY - not even with the addition of Santa hats and a knitted chicken - that a line of three animals gnawing on each other can be festive. None. Just no.

An old illustrated card that reads "A hearty Christmas to you all! May good digestion wait on appetite." and shows a cockerel biting a tortoise's tail, and the tortoise biting a duck's neck.
Oh, brief interlude while I let my shopping in!

Not gonna lie, LOVE this. It's fantastically bananas. Might well appear in an advent series next year, it just never made it high enough up the list.

The questions though. Are they both eating the cake? I think so. But one was possibly baked in it? And is that a wall mounted cake, or a very thin table that one has burst through?

But anyway. With best Christmas wishes. Have a cake!

An illustrated image with the message "With best Christmas wishes. Have a cake!" and showing a large star shaped cake with sprinkles on, and a young child's head and hands poking through. I think she's nibbling on it. It's on a grey backdrop which has also been burst through by a small child, who is also nibbling the cake, but from the outside.
This one kept being opened & closed but got left because I DO NOT UNDERSTAND IT. Sometimes the snow creature looks like it's smiling quite sweetly, but then I look again & it looks evil. That's mistletoe isn't it? Does it want to KISS the robin? That doesn't seem right. Is it going to give it a gift? That would be nice. Is it about to stomp down & squish the poor thing. Maybe? I've read that for a while killing a robin in December was considered a good-luck ritual. That's not good. Argh!

An old illustration of a large human shaped snowman holding mistletoe in one hand and a red berried plan in the other. It is looking down at a small robin in the bottom left, which is in turn looking up at the snowman's face.
Weird/evil snow creatures were another bizarre trope I noticed ...
Oh yes, there's one with a snow creature holding an axe or similar hiding behind a hedge! It was a real WTF one (in the midst of quite a lot of WTF).
Tbh it's about 99% WTF with the occasional "oh ok that's vaguely Christmassy and not scary/nuts" 😂
