These people ARE SERIOUSLY INDOCTRINATED, and you know? If they hadnt been drafting middleclass kids to get killed during vietnam, NO college protests would happen... but they kept upping the GPA requirement for exemption, dragging more and more affluent kids in. That's the motivation here.
