So, you know you're all interested in my takes on the #TV series #Empire ...

The last couple of episodes were telling. You see the writing of Empire is a bit like the Harry Potter books in that it's not what characters do that's bad, it's whose family they''re from that makes it acceptable or not.

So there's this one episode where this group of singers from an old Empire label pop act have a beef with the Lyons for not considering them for their 2020 album.
They do an interview and bad mouth the Lyons a bit. So there's a mini conflict which ends with Empire buying out the pop group's new label, so they effectively control the group, control what they say and what they release.

They stop negative press by censoring this group through ownership and corporate control.

However, and this isn't the only time this has happened, the Lyons are all nice and give the group a great deal and help them to relaunch their pop careers.
So, while they are corporate overlords, the show takes pains to make them look like benevolent corporate overlords.

They effectively control, dominate, and humiliate this pop group, but because they give the group a music contract, we're supposed to be see them as nice people.
You might wonder why I still watch it

You see, it started off good, with Lucious being a manipulator and a bad character. Pretty much all of the characters were bad, out to get each other. It was enjoyable.

I think what happened was the programme makers fell in love with their characters.

The problem is, they confused loving a bad character for loving a character because they are actually good.

So somewhere along the line, all of them have been absolved, yet they punish those who do the same
