The thing I really hate about the #TV series #Empire is the whole celebratory one-upmanship of it all.

And by series 4 I'm really starting to hate the show.

Generally, it's been a fun show where literally everyone is bad, but since everyone is bad, it's hard to feel a sense of victory when one character wins over another.

They're virtually all murderers or kidnappers or something and you're supposed to celebrate the Lyons winning.

It's starting to annoy me.
I think that if they were just enjoyable but clearly bad characters who got their comeuppance, then it wouldn't be so bad. But the Lyon's can do any crime and the show still expects the audience to cheer.

I really liked Andre and when he was going to kill Lucious I was into that. But then suddenly they're friends again.

Then the Dubois came and I was really into them, but no, they have to be outdone by the Lyons.

And a lot of the time, it's the Lyons that actually start the conflicts.
It's like Tom and Jerry, where the Lyons are Jerry, taking what's not theirs and coming out on top.

There's been a lot of celebratory one-upmanship:

Annika being stopped when trying to poach Tiana; The part when the Demi Moore character loses influence on Lucious and it's all "Bye! You can go now!"; And when the Lyons quite improbably hijack the Dubois' ball and start telling everyone about the Dubois' crimes as if the Lyons are fucking saints!

The hypocrisy alone is sickening.
