Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli wrote that, following the fall of Assad's regime, "Israel must restore its control over the summit of Mount Hermon and establish a new defense zone based on the 1974 cease-fire line." Lawmaker Tzvi Succot wrote that "Israel must establish a security zone in light of the new jihadist regime in Syria, which should include the Syrian Golan Heights and significant territory near the border." Succot added that "the political and military cost" for such a move "is likely lower than ever," while the security advantage it will bring about "is immense."
