Apparently editing a post on #Mastodon disconnects it from it's replies. Is this by accident (aka a bug) or by design (to make sure the replies always fit or something)? Asking @FediTips and everyone else

Editing a post using "edit" does not disconnect it from its replies.

It sounds like you are using "delete and redraft" instead of edit?

certainly true of "delete and redraft" but sounds like a bug for edit?

Jeah, i've noticed that, too - for some reason or another, i didn't have the option of editing on my Instance, i only had "delete and redraft".

Must have changed the last few weeks.

If your server was running a very old version of Mastodon but then updated it, that might be why "Edit" wasn't there before.

I just noticed, that the edit isn't federated. I have to open the post in the original served to see it.

Edits do federate but it can sometimes take a while for it to spread to other servers. Usually it happens within a few minutes.
