Today's historic photo of the day: Exactly 37 years ago today, XP2006 'City of Wagga Wagga' and the Corowa Federation Flyer charter #train at Corowa, NSW, January 24 1988.

This was a one-off run of an XPT on this light line that branched from the main South at Culcairn. The tour used the Riverina XPT set that normally sat idle at Albury on Sundays.

A broad gauge train ran to Wahgunyah across the river in Victoria, and both trains returned to Albury so travellers could make a circular trip
A view taken from alongside a railway line looking along the track towards a passenger station which has a platform track plus a second track at right forming a run-around loop. The station building is partly obscured at left. Sitting at the station platform is an XPT set in Candy livery and sporting a green and gold headboard proclaiming the train as the Corowa Federation Flyer. Just this side of the train is a road level crossing, and this side of the crossing is a set of points where the two tracks converge.
