Waiting for the Eurostar.
A bit of a delay but nothing bad. The onwards connection won't need to be rushed or missed.

More trains 😁

The last day of the holiday on the move (I have a few days at home to start recovering). Three trains and two countries again.

After a weekend of too much food and a lot of laughs, I am once again in a train.

It is not yet time to go home. For now I am bound for Lyon. I've heard a lot of good things about the place but have never made it there before. I'm looking forward to seeing a little bit of it.

A vertical colour photograph of the inside of a french local train. The train is not very busy. One person on a seat is wearing black and looking down at the phone in their hands.

And we're in 🚂
My emotional support donkey is ready to report for duty.

I used the travel assistance service from Eurostar to help through all the steps from security to getting to the train and it was super smooth, easy, and very friendly. A faff to book on the phone but worth it at the station.

St Pancras 😁 I always have a soft spot for this station.

Today I travel. Three trains and two countries ☺️

I just discovered that you can go from #Munich to #London by #train really really easily:

1. Nightjet 486 departs from Munich at 23:16 (3x / week)
2. Arrives Paris Est at 9:38
3. Take a Eurostar from Paris Nord, they run roughly once per hour
4. Arrive in London 2.5h later, e.g. 13:30

In terms of "active time spent traveling", this is as good as flying (get up early, head to airport, fly, train into London).

It's more expensive though, because capitalism.

Ha, first time in years I've aimed to catch a train on the Glev Waverley line, and it's just been bustituted due to some kind of truck collision. Switched to Lilydale line instead, can switch to the 72 tram southbound rather than northbound (I'm visiting someone between the two lines).

What is the Baluch Liberation Army? @AssociatedPress has more on the militant group in Pakistan that took train passengers hostage.

Just over a year after it was set fire to and destroyed by vandals, the train in Houldsworth Park (known to pretty much everyone as the Train Park) in Anderston has finally been replaced, much to the joy of the local kids. Thanks to Glasgow City Council and all those who helped make this happen.

📍 Iowa, US

Aidan Sturtz shot the video at a level crossing along the Canadian National Railway between Barnum and Fort Dodge in Webster County, where more than 6 inches of snow fell on Wednesday.

Today's historic photo of the day: Exactly 37 years ago today, XP2006 'City of Wagga Wagga' and the Corowa Federation Flyer charter #train at Corowa, NSW, January 24 1988.

This was a one-off run of an XPT on this light line that branched from the main South at Culcairn. The tour used the Riverina XPT set that normally sat idle at Albury on Sundays.

A broad gauge train ran to Wahgunyah across the river in Victoria, and both trains returned to Albury so travellers could make a circular trip
A view taken from alongside a railway line looking along the track towards a passenger station which has a platform track plus a second track at right forming a run-around loop. The station building is partly obscured at left. Sitting at the station platform is an XPT set in Candy livery and sporting a green and gold headboard proclaiming the train as the Corowa Federation Flyer. Just this side of the train is a road level crossing, and this side of the crossing is a set of points where the two tracks converge.

hi #fedi i'm looking for the most #autistic #relay possible, whether that's #actuallyautistic creators or some #train and #urbanism content or something other stuff like that, let me know because i need more 'tism rep in my feed and @celestiallavendar said that was the best way to ask

Today's historic photo of the day: Candy liveried EMD diesel locos 42101 and 42219, after bringing the Canberra Monaro Express down from Sydney, only just fit into the headshunt as they run around their train at the absolute end of the line at Canberra station, Kingston, ACT, November 22 1985

Instead of running as a DEB set down to Cooma as it did most days, on Sundays in the 1980s, the Canberra Monaro Express ran as a loco-hauled #train to Canberra only before stabling for its afternoon return
A pair of diesel locomotives, both painted in bright red 'candy' livery, sit coupled together and hard against a buffer backed with a mound of earth. The loco at the buffers has a streamlined cab with its nose to the buffers. The second loco is of a boxcab style. The ground around the tracks is fairly well covered in green grass. A second track veers towards us in the lower foreground leading to a rocky mound from which this photo was snapped and which forms a barrier to runaways on that track. Behind the locos are a number of tall green trees, and to the right is a high cyclone wire or chain wire fence beyond which are some flowering street trees and a suburban street. Above it all is a cloudless, rich blue sky.

Floppy Discs still run a U.S. Metro? Japan steps in with 'Project kill Floppy'.

Yes, we're talking about the good old floppy disk, which is somehow still being utilized for something as important as a critical function of a public transport network within a major city’s.

At 06:11 this morning began the journey back...

Theft of signal cabling near Doncaster means first train was canceled, fortunately further travel not affected 🤡

I used the 2 other days for a quick trip to Aviemore and a quick trek up Cairn Gorm - something I wouldn't have done without the ticket.
