Federal Courts Are Cracking Down on the #InternetArchive

A federal court recently said the Internet Archive is not protected by fair use doctrine.

In September, a federal appeals court dealt a major blow to the Internet Archive—one of the largest online repositories of free #books , media, and software—in a #copyright case with significant implications for publishers, #libraries , and readers

How big is the archive? Is it still possible for people to do "offline backups" of it?
@mikez_petm
the most recent numbers I’ve seen had estimated that the Internet archive is somewhere between 40 to 50 PetaBytes.

Of course other archivists can go for sub sections of the total. Hopefully they do some type of coordination so we don’t get 7500 copies of a popular section and none of the rest.
