Here’s how to do it:

1. Build a box. Make it secure.

2. Paint the inside of it in nice landscape colors.

3. Grow the people in that box so, with any luck, they’ll never know they’re in one.

4. Once they’re grown, you can assign those people very specific tasks – all of which serve the hierarchy that actually exists outside the box.

5. If they ever try the door of the box and find it barred, tell them they’re in there for their own protection, & it’s dangerous & hard ‘out there’.

6. If they feel tired & frustrated, tell them how lucky they are (never allude to the fact they only have power inside the box & nowhere else).*

*E.g. if they’re a mother, tell them their whole family recognizes ‘we’re in a matriarchy!’ (Keep a straight face. In fact, best if you believe it too, while hanging onto your privileges & bank card).
There are huge advantages to this ‘box’ approach.

a. You gain a lot from their labor and energies.

b. Their labor and energies won’t go into anything that challenges your own power out in the ‘real world’.

c. You feel ‘free’ by comparison with them, and superior.

d. You can renounce a lot of pesky responsibility, since, if they have so much power (as you pointed out to them in no.6, above), the responsibility is theirs; they’re the boss! So it’s also, of course, their fault if things go wrong. See my article on ‘morals and inertia’ for more on this.

But, I’m afraid, there’s a downside to all this.

Check your own surroundings.

Are there walls where you thought there was open space (try pushing against them)? Is that open landscape over there just… painted on?

And there it is!

Yes. We’re all in a box. 📦

Boxes in boxes in boxes, next to other boxes, piled up on top of more boxes.
