Rather a sad picture for #ThickTrunkTuesday but just shows the strength of the winter storms. On my walk last Friday I saw many fallen trees in the upland valleys - it looked like the winds had been funnelled. Most lifted at the roots but this one (oak?) was shattered. Maybe it already had a weakness, I don’t know.
Photo of a large tree (possibly oak) that has been brought down by storms. It lies shattered in a field, the mossy trunk splintered. In the background is a conifer plantation on a hillside. A whole swathe of trees flattened like matchsticks. In front of the plantation is a small river lined with broadleaf trees, some of these have also been downed or have lost branches. The sky is blue with white clouds.
Looks like it was struck by lightning!
