Rather a sad picture for #ThickTrunkTuesday but just shows the strength of the winter storms. On my walk last Friday I saw many fallen trees in the upland valleys - it looked like the winds had been funnelled. Most lifted at the roots but this one (oak?) was shattered. Maybe it already had a weakness, I don’t know.

Only a human, with a compromised & unwell soul, would be OK killing an elder tree this magnificent. Some things are just plain wrong.

These ancient old growth trees are essential to fighting accelerated #ClimateChange. #OldGrowth ecosystems in our coastal temperate rainforests supports much biodiverse lifeforms. The naturally moist environment helps to lower impacts of wildfires & other natural disasters that have increased as our governments continue to fund & enable more ecocidal projects.

White willow this last late spring. #ThickTrunkTuesday
A somewhat distant shot of a white willow tree that nevertheless completely fills and floods the frame. The dark blonde bark, ridged and criss-crossed like argyle or cable knit, rises along the thick central trunk, then a series of arms--some nearly as thick as the trunk itself--reach out like giants' fingers from which massive arrays of dendrites covered in the last remnants of olive and gold late spring leaves arc a canopy across the sky as patches and glints of sunlight show through. It is like an EEG scan of a leafy brain, full of electricity and shadows and warmth.

The "Seven Chiefs" plane tree on Margaret Island, Budapest. Almost 200 years old, it was injured during the siege in WWII and regrew with 6 trunks (one of which branched in two later).

The beautiful & rare, open grown ‘Summergill Brook Ash’, that probably was a part of an ancient Ash Silvopasture, sitting near the Wales - England boarder, 300 - 400 years old, without ash dieback! It would of witness ‘The Wars of the Three Kingdoms, the British Civil Wars’. It stands strong, with a slightly more decayed Ancient Ash neighbour downstream, holding the oxbow together. 6.96m in girth an Ancient Tree. Black and white image.
