"2020

I may not have found the answer to the Secret I was looking for in Kemet, but I shared something with the thousand-year-old lords of the Nile. Then, I remembered this passage from a story that some Bards once told:

[...] Tell me why I had to be a Powerslave
I don't wanna die, I'm a god
Why can't I live on?
When the Life Giver dies
All around is laid waste
And in my last hour
I'm a Slave to the Power of Death [...]

(Iron Maiden, 1984, Powerslave)"

[Excerpt from the Sukha' SacredBrew Logbook]

Abu Simbel in its full glory, bathed in golden sunlight that enhances the warm brown tones of the ancient stone structure.

View from our cabin right now. We're cruising up the Hardangerfjord and will get as far as the Furebergsfossen waterfall before heading back and towards Bergen for tomorrow. The distant mountains are part of the Folgefonna glacier.

Choppy, deep blue water leads to several layers of land beyond one another, parts of rocky and tree-filled areas along this wide fjord. Small houses of a village nestle to the right in the distance. The furthest land under this cold, piercing blue sky is a jagged mountain range with deep masses of snow and ice on its peaks.

Across the fjord is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a stave church from the 11th century.

A local hostel owner did trick us into believing riding a manual bike there would be easy. But in fairness to him, Norwegians do seem to be in incredible shape. Maybe the aggressive uphill trip doesn’t hit the same.

Our very first visit to Norway found us in Bergen on a day that started off rainy but did brighten up as the day wore on. We had no plans during our 2013 visit other than to walk around and see what caught our eyes, and ended up buying jewellery, some more typical souvenirs, and having a beer outside somewhere. Not great beer, but nice to try the local stuff anyway.

An overcast day with drizzly rain and the people we can see are mostly wearing raincoats with some holding umbrellas. We're in a city and standing next to a dock that stretches through it. Buildings are set well back from us on the right and across the flat, grey water on the left more buildings on the other side of the harbour area can be seen. Tied up alongside in front of us is a modern sailing boat created in the style of a Viking longboat with very high, curved prow and aft and a single mast in the centre. The boat is warmly-coloured wood with a little green, red, and yellow accent colouring on its hull. It feels cold and damp.

Five weeks today we should be back in #Bergen, #Norway for the first time since 2013 when it was, incidentally, the very first place in Norway we ever visited.

We didn't have any real plans back then but we've more of an idea about what we want to see this time around and we've got our eyes set on better sources of beer too. In 2013 we had a pint of some generic lager (Hansa) but we've identified proper craft beer locations now.

An overcast day that's had some rain earlier. We're in a city looking across a wide, empty road to the other side up a street that joins this one. That street rises slowly towards buildings at its far end that are set at the base of a large, rounded, wooded hill that fills half the backdrop and has its uppermost reaches touching and just obscured faintly by the low cloud. The architecture of the buildings either side of the junction are markedly different. On he left a large building has red wooden planks on its exterior with green accents on the frames of large windows set in it. Next to it, on the corner, the colours are largely a warm yellow and red with the former colour that on the wide pillar forms that decorate the small patches of brickwork. A crenellation effect on the top of the building gives a slight appearance of a castle and wording reads "Hanseatic Museum" on a black banner. The building to the right of the street is made from dark brick but its flat facade has a stepped, angled shape, like a flattened ziggurat, and the impression is almost church-like.

This morning in Vero Beach.

Took this so you could see it, hoping it would add a little happiness to your day.

On my tour of the Pelican NWR, saw these Beggar Ticks attracting butterflies. Previously treated as native plants, evidence (including DNA) is piling up that they are not. Probably just as well.

They are found in disturbed areas, such as the maintained trail I was walking on.

I hope these brighten your January day.

Close up of daisy-like flower with seven white petals that have jagged ends. The center reproductive structures are small golden knobs, some of which have opened up to small tube-like structures with brown bases. Two other similar flowers, one incomplete, are more blurry in the near background. The remaining background is blurry brown stems, sand and a few green leaves in the bottom left.

# WildlifeWednesday

Was touring the Pelican National Wildlife Refuge hours ago. This is the first NWR ever created. More upcoming in this thread.

🦋 Saw many Great Southern Whites feeding. Their caterpillars feed on Mustards, Peppergrass, Saltwort, and Sea Rocket. They are found in coastal scrub, saltwater marshes, and dunes. Unusual coloration on the body.

An old entity has been preserved in the courtyard of the historical home site surrounding it. It has seen five flags fly over it as civilized nations fought each other, even burned the city, to colonize the area.

A large tree trunk with vertically lined gray-brown bark. Three large limbs split off at about six feet (two meters). At the bough ends visible there are patches of small green leaves. In the background is a wrought iron gate and, in the distance, an old residential building.
The end of several limbs from the same old tree as previous photo, growing top right to lower left, view looking up into the rich blue sky from underneath. Limbs are gnarled and angular, ending in tufts of small green leaves. There is Spanish moss and ferns growing on the limbs. One limb blocks the sun. On the lower left are the backs of historical buildings, one three stories tall and pink. It has two slim vertical windows on the top floor and a door and similar window on the first floor. There is a section visible of a breezeway made of stone arches. A banana plant grows nearby. There is an arched gate to the right of the pink building. The other building partially visible are white with dark roofs.

A close-up photograph captures a brown double door nestled in an aged, light brown brick wall. The door, crafted from wood, is adorned with numerous dark metal studs and features two lion head door knockers. Above the door, a semi-circular window is framed by a matching archway. The window is divided into small panes by a grid of metal bars, with a central design reminiscent of a flower or a starburst. To the right of the door, a small black sign displays the white numeral "6". The brick wall extends beyond the door, showing variations in color, with the section to the right of the door appearing to be a pale yellow. The bricks themselves are uneven in shape and size, adding to the building's rustic charm. The photograph's lighting suggests an overcast day or a shaded location, as the colors are muted and there are no harsh shadows.

A grand wooden door, rich brown and accented with lighter decorative panels, stands within a wall of large, light sandy bricks. Above the door, a fanlight of ornate wrought iron glows with a warm yellow light. This arched window is framed by the same pale stone that surrounds the door, contrasting with the rough texture of the brickwork. A small rectangular sign to the right of the door bears the number "9".

First post to #pixelfed. Hope I am doing this right. Just want to share pictures of whatever I encounter that seems beautiful and interesting and perhaps, uncommon. Often #wildlife and frequently #travelphotography. All amateur.

As you explore, you'll find narrow streets lined with colorful houses, seafood tavernas, and small shops offering local products. The town's history is deeply intertwined with ancient Sparta, as it was once its port.

Key spots to visit include:

- Kranai Island: A small islet connected by a causeway, featuring the Tzanetakis Tower, a lighthouse, and beautiful views of the sea.
- Dimitrios Shipwreck: Located on the beach of Valtaki, this photogenic wreck is a must-see for photographers.
- Mavrovouni Beach: A long sandy beach just south of Gythio, popular for swimming and windsurfing.

For #FotoMontag a departing view of the village of Flåm in Norway from last year's visit there. It's one of the prettiest locations in an incredibly pretty part of the world, and it doesn't hurt that it's got an incredible brewery there.

#Travel #Photography #TravelPhotography #LandscapePhotography #Landscape #Norway #Flaam #Flåm #Fjords #PhotoMonday #Cruise
We're several decks high on a ship leaving a low-lying village settled on a triangular patch of nearly flat ground at the base where two mountain ridges split apart from the narrower valley they've carved out of the landscape behind. It's a bright day with a mix of light blue sky and patches of puffy white clouds above. The longer chain of hills and mountains runs from the left across the field of view, overlapped in front by the slope on the right of the nearer, taller, more verdant rocky formations. Sheer faces of dark rock poke out amongst the greenery of trees clinging to any flat surface and growing tall, though tiny and difficult to make out individually from this distance. The ground between the mountains and beside the flat, blue water of the fjord we're on is bright in the sunshine and a lush green with short grass. Houses and other low buildings mostly line the water's edge with roofs of red or grey tiles and walls of white for the most part.

Sunset View Point The Great Meteoron Monastery Meteora Greece

At the end of the evening tour, we went to the best viewpoint on the rocks to watch the sun setting behind the mountain range of Pindos or according to Greek mythology, we saw the god Helios on his fiery chariot taking his horses to rest.

My shots of the evening of changing light painting the landscape in shifting hues of rose and orange sunset at Meteora was a once-in-a-life-time experience. #Sunset at #FlamingCliffs, #Mongolia

There's a spot in the #GobiDesert where sunset briefly casts light on the face of these cliffs. On the day of my visit it was cloudy and it appeared that I was out of luck. But as there was a fleeting moment where the sun broke through. I have tweeked the brightness-contrast to make the shot more attractive to me.
