Resurrecting another *NEW* portfolio: This is the Isle of Arran, Scotland 👉 https://www.iancylkowski.com/scottish-islands/isle-of-arran

We spent a week here way back in 2017, and a week is not enough. I yearn to be here again, with its imposing mountains, ancient history, gorgeous coast and so much.

A serene and ancient stone circle at Machrie Moor on the Isle of Arran, Scotland. Three tall standing stones dominate the foreground, their surfaces weathered and covered with patches of lichen and moss, indicating their age and exposure to the elements. The largest stone stands prominently on the right, its rugged texture and earthy tones contrasting with the surrounding landscape. The other two stones are slightly smaller and positioned further back, creating a sense of depth and alignment. The ground is a mix of grass and dry, golden-brown vegetation, suggesting an autumnal setting. In the background, rolling hills stretch across the horizon under a partly cloudy sky, with a faint rainbow arching gracefully above the scene. The overall atmosphere is one of tranquility and historical significance, evoking a sense of connection to the past amidst the natural beauty of the Scottish countryside.
A picturesque scene of a cascading stream in North Glen Sannox on the Isle of Arran, Scotland. The water flows gently over rocks and small waterfalls, creating a smooth, silky texture that highlights its movement. Surrounding the stream are patches of grass and heather, displaying autumnal hues of yellow, orange, and green, adding warmth to the landscape. Large boulders are scattered along the banks, contributing to the rugged beauty of the area. In the background, imposing rocky hills rise up, their dark, jagged silhouettes contrasting with the softer tones of the foreground. The sky above is partly cloudy, with grey clouds hinting at an impending change in weather, while a sliver of light breaks through, casting a gentle glow over the scene. The overall atmosphere is one of serene wilderness, showcasing the raw natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
The majestic Glenashdale Falls on the Isle of Arran, Scotland. A powerful waterfall cascades down a steep rocky cliff, its water appearing smooth and silky due to the long exposure used in capturing the scene. The falls are surrounded by lush, dense vegetation, with trees and foliage displaying vibrant autumnal colours, including greens, yellows, oranges, and hints of red. The mist rising from the falling water adds a mystical quality to the atmosphere, enhancing the sense of movement and energy. The surrounding landscape is rich with ferns and moss-covered rocks, creating a verdant backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the white, frothy water of the falls. The overall scene exudes a sense of tranquility and natural beauty, highlighting the raw power and serenity of this stunning Scottish landmark.
A serene and picturesque scene at Glen Rosa on the Isle of Arran, Scotland. A small, flowing stream meanders through a rugged landscape, its water cascading gently over rocks to create miniature waterfalls. The foreground features a shallow pool with clear, reflective water that mirrors the surrounding environment, including the rocky terrain and patches of vibrant vegetation. Large boulders are scattered along the banks, adding texture and depth to the scene. The background reveals rolling hills and distant mountains, their peaks shrouded in soft mist under a partly cloudy sky. The landscape is adorned with autumnal hues, with grasses and shrubs displaying warm tones of yellow, orange, and brown, contrasting beautifully with the greenery and the cool blue-grey of the rocks. The overall atmosphere is one of peaceful wilderness, showcasing the natural beauty and tranquility of this Scottish glen.

Have a great weekend everyone! Enjoy this pic of this beautiful tidal marsh that I saw on a walk near the ocean yesterday. This marsh is connected to the ocean (but not seen in this pic). I could hear the pounding of the surf from the ocean the entire walk! #ocean #hiking #CapeCod

Photo of marsh as viewed from edge. The water leads away from the camera toward the horizon where the ocean is (but the ocean is not seen). Tan and brown grasses line the edges of the water.

Colmar, France!

I don't have plans to go back to Colmar this spring, but I'm hitting up four nearby towns in April and May.

I think other than the Alps and Heidelberg, Alsace has been my favorite region to photograph since moving here.

Every town feels like you are walking through a Studio Ghibli movie.

I went for a spring bike ride in the Grizedale Forest yesterday, and had the place nearly to myself.

Some images from yesterdays hike in the badlands of Tabernas, Almeria. A cold day but this made the skies crystal clear of either the heat haze or the Saharan dust that normally plague this area

A natural frame, well sort of natural. In fact this is a motorway bridge! But gives a nice framework for the interesting scenery behind

Typical scenery in the Tabernas desert. Arid badlands contrasting with vegetation in the "Ramblas". These palm trees were the scene for the oasis scene in Lawrence of Arabia

One of the finest views in #Scotland sits amidst the towering #mountains of Torridon. The summit itself is a flat shelf with steep drops to the south, providing an uninterrupted vista of the expansive glen beyond. The mountain itself is not on many people's lists; not surprising given it's dramatic neighbours. But, as a photographer, it is often these lower peaks that offer the best opportunities for images!

One of the things I love about Glasgow is that within a hour you can be in a surprisingly wide variety of very different landscapes ranging from rugged mountains to sandy beaches, such as this one at Irvine.

I nearly bailed and stayed home Saturday night when this image (any several to come) was captured. I managed to convince myself to get out regardless of how dull things were looking, and was rewarded 15 minutes later with this incredible side light. Lesson learned.

It had been raining for days in Canada's Thousand Islands region, and despite numerous disappointments, I kept trying. Persistence paid off, the sun broke through, and painted it all in breathtaking light.🍁

Yesterday we had snow(storms)during the whole day. A good chance to process the photos of the Aurora the night before.
Let’s see, what the weather will bring us today 😎😇

Something brand new, the tree and ravens were captured in the highlands of Falls Creek here in Australia. We have very chaotic forests which means the fog is quite vital to making a clear composition. The ravens were captured in nearby trees as there are many found in this area, just not where you want them =P

No title yet...

A black and white vertical image depicting a stunted tree in fog. The background is full of chaotic branches in all directions as the forest in the highland grows chaotically. A raven explores a nearby log in the foreground while another raven looks on from deep in the fog.

Hartlepool Beach

Taken on my first photography visit to Hartlepool in Nov 2024. This photo was a bit of an afterthought so unshared till now.

The sun had just broken free of the clouds and was casting golden light across the sand, I decided to take this last shot as I walked away from photographing the posts.

Sunlight streams across a beach as a wave runs up towards the camera, its motion captured by a long exposure. In the mid-ground wooden post stand proud of the sea. The sky over head is partly cloudy.

"Golden Drapery", Scotland's Ancient Caledonian Forest (2024).

A crown of floating pines. This is a common occurrence on Scottish lochs and tells a deeper story of the #landscape. Deer can't access these islands and so isolated patches of ancient woodland remain unscathed — if we look across the shore, we see the barren backdrop beyond. I loved the way these backlit #autumn birch leaves framed the scene, giving a sense of time and place.

Continuing to share favourite images from my 30+ year photographic career. Now featuring Finland.
Lighthouse and pilot house at Kobba Klintar on the approach to Mariehamm in the Åland Islands. (There’s now a café there and I’d love to visit.)

Basking in the tranquil hues of dusk, this Munich silhouette captures the essence of a fading day. The blend of deep blues and soft pinks creates a serene backdrop, highlighting the architectural outlines that define the skyline. Trees stand tall alongside historic structures, hinting at stories waiting to be told as night begins to fall. A peaceful end to an inspiring day.
