And finding some forgotten lupins I'd sown from seed last autumn holding in their fingers a raindrop each like a peace offering, or a promise, I am suddenly grateful and would offer a prayer if I believed in God. But not believing, I bless the power of seed, its casual, useful persistence, and bless the power of sun, its conspiracy with the underground, and thank my stars the winter's ended.

Tautropfen und die aufgehende Morgensonne lassen die Krokusse in einem ganz besonderen Glanz erstrahlen. Und die Bokeh-Perlen gibts halt auch nur, wenn die Tautropfen von der Nacht noch auf den Grashalmen liegen.

Das Bild zeigt ein kleines, aus einer Glühbirne gebasteltes Blumenarrangement, das vor einem unscharfen, grünen Hintergrund hängt. Das Bild zeigt einen detaillierten Blick auf ein kleines Blumenarrangement, das in einer umgebauten Glühbirne angeordnet ist. Die Glühbirne ist aus Glas und transparent, sodass die Blumen gut sichtbar sind. Es sind mehrere gelbe Narzissen und einige blaue Traubenhyazinthen zu sehen. Met this lovely Japanese owl moth (Brahmaea japonica) during a walk the other day. Looked up some details and they say that it’s pretty rare type of moth that we can only see during late March and early April. Think I was lucky😃🦋

Spring cleaning this weekend to get ready for new gardening season. First, the compost needs to be turned. The first thing to know about compost is that there are a lot of ways to do it, and a lot of people are convinced that theirs is the only right way. I ignore them. I am a lazy composter. I don't balance my greens and browns, I don't take temperature readings, I don't turn the piles more than a few times a year. I use the three bay system.

Been busy all last week cutting down the borders. With the temperatures on the up, I reckoned that everybody is out now of their winter quarters in stems and seedheads.
The photograph is of the middle third of the #garden, viewed across. Behind the camera is the greenhouse, a little more space and a tall hedge.
Later in the year, this area is filled with tall, flowering #perennials, ornamental #grasses and #wildflowers - you cannot see from one side to the other. It is beautiful, undisciplined and overflowing with nature.
At this time of the year it is just flat. I am anxiously waiting to see what will come back.

One of the great things about living in Glasgow is how close you are to some truly wild places, and with the promise of a rather wonderful sunny Spring day ahead, this morning I got up early and headed out of the city. This a tree I came across at Firkin Point on the west bank of Loch Lomond.

A stroll through Inverleith Park and the Botanics.

I love the line of trees in Inverleith Park, and they made me seek out a similar but different prospect in the Botanics. Lots of crocuses and daffodils too, though I didn't notice and forgot to look for the famous snowdrops!

I think it was my first visit to the Botanics since Storm Eowyn. There are still many trees down. It's a bit like seeing injured friends.
