Brettspiel über Klimakrise: "Fröhliche Wissenschaft":

"Das Brettspiel „Habitable“ basiert auf Erkenntnissen aus der Astronomie. Es zeigt, wie man Ergebnisse der Wissenschaft spielerisch vermitteln kann. (...)

2023 bekam das achtköpfige Entwicklungsteam im Rahmen des Hochschulwettbewerbs von „Wissenschaft im Dialog“ 10.000 Euro, um das Spiel zu entwickeln. Das Ergebnis ist „Habitable“: ein Brettspiel ab 10 Jahren, von dem aktuell 90 Exemplare an Bibliotheken und Schulen existieren."

New year, new server, new #introduction !

I've become a #cinephile over the past 5 or 10 years, so I mostly talk about #movies here. I started a #MovieReview blog about two years ago (link in profile), covering new releases (no spoilers).

I'm also a #PhysicalMedia collector, both movies and #music (mostly #rock / #metal ).

Outside that, I'm a professional #programmer living in the Northeastern US. I spend a bunch of time on the #pickleball court. And I love (and collect) #BoardGames

#introduction Hi, looking forward to hanging out here, myself I spend my time playing #acousticguitar doing covers mainly, growing #veg at home and down the #allotment ; #repair broken things although I have been known to blow them up when things go wrong!. Designing and building in wood when I get the urge (furniture, cajon drum most recently) reading all sorts of #books, particularly #scifi and #historicalfiction and enjoy #boardgames with friends, plus plenty of #running #yoga #strengthtraining

One of the recurring, worn-out rhetorical tropes about games is that they are 'pointless'.

And it oddly reminds me of similar arguments made in favour of fiction writing vs non-fiction writing.

It seems oddly anachronistic to me and I do get a little tired of hearing the praises of escapism and fantasy, when trying to talk about games.

Surely, there are better conversations to be had and less basic arguments to be made as to why games are worth people's time?

Hey there! I’m Petrichord (she/her). Please don’t call me Petri—it makes me think of the biology class I failed in college. Fun facts: I’m an award-winning writer, but executive dysfunction usually wins, so long posts are rare victories. I’m #ActuallyAutistic and have #ADHD, which means I’m very socially awkward, so chaos comes naturally.
