Frisch von gestern Abend. So langsam kommen sie in der Eifel, die Küchenschellen. Viele sind es noch nicht, aber wenn zwei von ihnen so gut stehen, braucht es ja auch nicht unbedingt mehr. Zumindest hat man dann nicht die Qual der Wahl und kann einfach eine Stunde lang vor den Blüten warten bis die Sonne untergeht...

Dew Lantern

Photographing in the morning hours is a bliss. The weather forecast said it would be overcast, but I went outside anyway. When the sun came out, every blade of grass had a single dewdrop with a tiny sun in it, shimmering in the ground fog. Worth the lost hours of sleep.

Introducing New Zealand's latest Bug of the Year- the magnificent Ngāokeoke or Velvet Worm!

These amazing, ancient creatures were around long before the dinosaurs, and are taxonomically considered close relatives of Arthropods and Tardigrades. They have a unique method pf prey capture - using a pair of glue-gun organs on their heads to immobilise prey with a shower of sticky glue.

Aotearoa has two genera of velvet worms: one lays eggs (Ooperipatellus, 1st photo) and the other gives live birth (Peripatoides, 2nd). Oh, and to mate, males deposit sperm onto the skin of their partner, which then burrow through the female's skin and migrate throughout their blood to be stored in special uterine tubes until needed!

Truly remarkable creatures and well-deserving of their new title!

You can probably imagine my disappointment when I opened up these images and saw I had missed focus by fractions of a milimeter.

The woodlice have been eating my strawberries, but I tried to make the most of it by getting some strong red backgrounds and interesting scenes from it. I nearly managed, but just marginally missed as the little guys were moving around so fast.

Oh well, maybe next year

Throughout the photo there are sporophytes, one in sharp focus near center top frame. In this species, the sporophytes consist of long stalks that curve at the top with a spore-containing capsule dangling down from each.

L'abella solitària Megachile sculpturalis és una espècie al·lòctona present a Catalunya des del 2018 i des de fa més d'una dècada a diversos països europeus. Coneguda en anglès com abella gegant de la resina (Giant resin bee), ja que pot mesurar fins uns 24 mm., és un megaquílid molt més gran que altres membres de la família. A la imatge es pot veure una femella entrant al seu niu aprofitant els forats de la paret.

4 petit champignons tout ronds au chapeau un peu gelatineux couleur orange-caramel, poussent dans un reste de bouse de vache. Le 4e est deja mort, il est noir et tout fletri, et se decompose.
Un petit champignon au chapeau conique marron clair,avec un pied magnifique marron piqué de blanc sur lequel on distingue quelques gouttes d'eau, de la hauteur des herbes.

La vue vers le val d'Azun et le village d'Arrens-Marsous depuis le col du soulor. Le plafond nuageux est assez bas et accroche des montagnes de taille intermediaire, mais il y a de beaux eclairages de soleil sur certaines pentes aux couleurs d'automnes, et sur le village et la vallée. Au 1er plan, des collines d prairies avec des fougeres cramoisies. Teintes pastel vert, rouge-pourpre, brun.
