Hmm.... https://flipping.rocks might be good for the algae and lichen? Also they should follow the hashtags #LichenSubscribe and #Mosstodon 😀

If your friend wants any help using this place feel free to ask, and there's also lots of support for new people at https://fedi.tips

Some more moss pictures from today.

I'm starting to build an eye for it, looking out for mosses as I cycle the city. It's a bit like trying to find mushrooms in a forest. I do wish I could add the names of the mosses and lichens in the description though.

looking along a rope overgrown with moss along a tree, this macro shot looks like a lush green forest with plants growing over the rope like it's wooden tree trunks.
Blue-white and yellow, cup shaped lichen, crowing on a tree stem. Very close up, the photo covers maybe 1cm. It looks like a rough and alien landscape.
Close-up of a seedpod of a moss. A mosspit if you like.
Star moss looking like a massive succulent or aloe plant among even smaller moss as this crowing among the brick work on a bridge.

this lichen knows it's monday.

(also, as i mistyped at first, this lichen knows its monday.)

a rough and slightly knobbly rendered grey concrete wall covered in moss and lichen. the moss is nearer the bottom, mostly dark and dry but with some hints of new green growth. the lichen is a bright yellow to yellow-green and nearer the middle of the image. its main features are what look like two big round eyes, one bigger than the other, and a frowny mouth offset slightly to the left.

Orange-cored Shadow lichen (Phaeophyscia rubropulchra) on a tree trunk

The photo shows a rosette-shaped lichen with olive-green leaves (lobes) growing on a dark tree trunk.
The narrow, branched, long lobes are closely connected to the tree trunk and attached with short, black 'hairs' (rhizines) that are visible on the underside of the lobes.
Some of the lobe tips are broken off, and an orange-coloured core can be seen inside the lobes, which is an unusual inner colour for lichens!
In most cases, this inner part of the lobes, called the medulla, is white.
This lichen, the Orange-cored Shadow lichen (Phaeophyscia rubropulchra), is surrounded by a brown liverwort, some moss and some snow.

Wow, I have never felt so welcomed on any social network before! Thank you all :) I thought my first post would be seen by just about nobody. But no, nearly 600 favorites! I'm amazed!
Another one of my moss artworks: a small lighted sporophyte embroidery again. More (and other types of artworks) to follow!

A small wooden circle filled with moss themed embroidery, from which five sporophytes grow. They are tiny lights. The embroidery is placed on a tree trunk covered with moss.

Some more pics from icy Cors Caron today.

There were some water birds on the main pond but the windows in the hide were all fogged up (and short-arse here couldn’t see over the screen outside)!

Photo of little icicles on the wooden overhang of a roof, in the out-of-focus background is a wetland - pond, edged with reeds and spindly trees - through which a boardwalk runs. The sky is blue with fluffy white clouds. The low sun sparkles on the icicles, showing up little air bubbles trapped in the ice. A drop of meltwater falls from the icicle on the left.
Landscape photo of a wetland pond framed by bare branches of birch trees. Trees also stand on a small island in the middle. The blue sky reflects on the icy, still water. It looks cold!
Photo of a fence post covered with all manner of lichen - grey and scaly on the face and more green and tufty on the top. Tussocks of golden-brown grasses behind.
Photo of a wooden fence rail topped with ice crystals over pale green lichen. The background is blurred golden-brown grasses and a line of silver birch trees.

Found this lichen covered stick that was blown down in the wind- nice to see the witches butter fungus already growing on it.
Nice to have a pal who was also keen to investigate (and could hold the stick for me to photo)
#LichenSubscribe #Fungi
Fingers holding a stick covered in greeny-yellow lichen, with discs for spares on it. 2 lumpy bumps of orange fungi are emerging from the sides of the stick. There is a pale circle where a side branch has broken off.

I have seen pictures of donkeys marked with #asstodon. It improves my timeline, like #mosstodon (macro photography of mosses), #lichensubscribe (same for lichen). Above hashtags are less obvious than #birdphotography or all the ones with cats. Some others I can never remember, like the Welsh hashtag that is used for pictures of sheep.
And, yes, there are many surprising communities here.

When the leaves are all gone
The colours are found
Not up in the trees
But low to the ground
