This week I have been working on Habbet Binn / Coffee Bean | حبة بن from Gaza and Jaffa (maybe). I'm using brown thread. I got the pattern from this amazing resource:

I'm learning the basics from the Tatreez & Chai classes organized by CPSA London:

@Haneenalbrqouni and I are working on a design that I will embroider for her fundraiser.

Close up photo of a strip of black aida cloth 11 count fabric that has two iterations of the Habbat Binn / Coffee Beans tatreez motif cross-stitched onto it in brown thread. The motif has a centre stem with leaves branching of left and right symmetrical to each other.

The cloth is propped against a white and black keffiyeh used as a background.
The black aida cloth in the previous image has been flipped over to show the back of the stitching, which is fairly neat for a beginner's second piece! The tails are bound to the back by cross-stitches along a line instead of being tied off.

Here is my tatreez progress, I finally finished a piece. This is basically the Bateekh / Watermelon / بطيخ motif but I only used two colours because I'm a beginner.

I am participating in Tatreez and Chai workshops, part of the Threads of Diaspora project organized by CPSA London. Their project is going to be beautiful.

Close up of tatreez cross-stitch embroidery on coarse black fabric.

There are four columns, each with four green watermelons separated by red vines.

The quality of the stitching starts off rather poor but improves somewhat going from left to right.

Embroidery by Japanese designer Masafusa Shibuya, 1990s, known for his work on silk jackets and album covers.

Today was my first Tatreez & Chai class!

Thank you Rasha and everyone else. I had fun and learned some important basic skills that I had been missing after trying to learn on my own during the past week.

Here is a photo of my progress, some of it was done after class today. My first cross-stitches ever.

This is for my project with @Haneenalbrqouni

Close up photograph of some tatreez cross-stitching that is in progress. There are two small pieces of aida count 11 cloth, one white and one black. Between the two pieces of fabric is a tatreez pattern printed on paper of watermelons and vines. On top of the piece of paper rests a needle threaded with red thread.

The white cloth on the left has two green watermelons cross stitched in somewhat poorly. The rest of the pattern is drawn onto the fabric with pencil . Resting above this piece of cloth is a floss of green thread numbered 895.

The black cloth on the right has a single watermelon cross-stitched a little more evenly than the two on the white fabric. All three watermelons are green thread. Above the black cloth is a floss of red thread numbered 321.

Day 6 #ArtAdventCalendar • It's also #WIPwednesday today, so here is my current work-in-progress, a vagus nerve. The first photo is of the piece all washed and ironed after washing out the sulky. The second is the next part I’m stitching. #SciArt #anatomy #embroidery
An image of an old engraving of a vagus nerve is embroidered on sulky green cotton. The embroidery of the main nerve lines is done in blue chain stitch in perlé cotton. The brain and some of the face is stitched in the same thread in backstitch. Details in the face are stitched in single strand floss.
The upper chest area of a vagus nerve is stitched in blue chain stitch on green cotton is in an embroidery hoop. An anatomical heart has been sketched in thin white chalk and the outline is being stitched in two strand red back stitch. A needle minder in the shape of an hourglass that reads, "This is taking forever," sits near the stitches holding a needle.
