A way overdue finish, but a finish nonetheless!

"My Precious Sweater", crocheted in Ice Yarns Alara which it turns out is the most fabulous purple in the whole entire world.

I made the body a bit shorter than called for, and left the sleeves wide and long and comfy.

Very pleased, I'll wear this one a ton!

It's pretty (relatively) expensive for anything cedar to ward off Wool moths.

I did an experiment. I put drops of clove oil directly into a clean fleece that was infected with Wool moths.
... the Wool moths and their larvae died. In the fleece. The infection of that bit of fleece ended.

Wool moth males smell pheromones given off by females (pheromone traps). Adults don't eat. Only the larvae do.

Tbh my first reaction would be to take a baseball bat and beat the yarn basket until the bat breaks. (I don't own a cricket bat, my part of the family isn't THAT British.)

Idk why my first reaction is "SMASH TO KILL!!" or "BURN IT WITH ALL OF THE FIRE!!"

Idk how else in that moment to kill tiny winged demons that eat yarn.

(I've done the moth kill saga before though.)

Usually, I dye yarn to reflect colours in photos (mine or licensed) but one thing I don’t do is use AI to generate matching images. This is mainly because I enjoy working this way. To me, it’s authentic and valuable. I also think photographers would rather be paid for their work than have it just used to train AI without permission or compensation. Plus, AI has environmental impacts that must be taken seriously. #mothyandthesquid #yarn #knitting #crochet

i was recently reminded of this project thanks to another user making her own version.

back in 2022 i was given a bundle of unwanted baby pink yarn. the pink was so sweet and delicate it prompted ironic feelings in me, as a stark contrast to the harshness of life—the suffering, injustices, illnesses, mortality.

i was inspired to create this dress with a crochet bodice + filet crochet lettering, curtains for sleeves, and fabric i’d kept for decades for the skirt.

As a beginning spinner I bought roving from my local yarn store and etsy. There weren't many places to get spinning fibers a while back.

Now there's a lot more places to buy wool in various preps. I tend to buy more fleeces than roving now. Washed or spinning in the grease.

Use your first handspun yarn! It's not as "ugly" as you think. I made a crochet hat from one and a knit hat from another. I still wear them over a decade later.

#introduction I've actually had this account for a few years, but I didn't have an introductory post, so here it is.

I live in Cymru (Wales) and speak Cymraeg (Welsh) as a second language having learned as an adult.

I'm now retired so have more time to enjoy my interests which are photography, improving my Welsh and I've started writing fiction again. I also enjoy knitting, crochet, walking with my husband.

So that I am not vagueposting: I was told by someone to "back off the AI policing" after I pointed out that the crochet pattern they shared is AI generated and doesn't actually exist. I follow many wonderful crafting people online, and I love crochet. I just don't get why someone knowingly shares crap like that.

Good morning everyone 🥶 Still very chilly here today with a storm on the way this weekend. I'm just up as Grant is going birding this morning so got up for the parrots. I've just come downstairs to a lovely welcome from them all, with Ziggy yelling "Hello!" as soon as she heard me coming down and Jadie babbling with excitement. Toby is the silent one, but at least he isn't screeching at me - yet - I fully expect that ear shattering squawk to happen soon as it's something he seems to do in the mornings. Only to me mind you. He just makes little "Hmmm?" noises to Grant. 🤔

I have to sort out an order that came in last night for a pair of slipper boots so it can be posted today and then we're off for a bimble around Lidl later. I'm waiting for yarn to arrive for a new custom crochet order and have another potential on the cards. It's that time of year 😊
