Oh another knitting regret from that video:
As a beginner: Just buying yarn to buy yarn. For me, it was a way to self medicate my mental health issues and issues folks had with my adhd and autism.
But also yarn is colorful! And it's on sale! And there were big balls of acrylic!
I grew disinterested with acrylic and I saw the pilling and roughness of afghans at the thrift store.
I only buy yarn with a *plan* in mind for it.
I spin yarn now. Eventually I will have a flock of sheep.🫠

As a beginning spinner I bought roving from my local yarn store and etsy. There weren't many places to get spinning fibers a while back.
Now there's a lot more places to buy wool in various preps. I tend to buy more fleeces than roving now. Washed or spinning in the grease.
Use your first handspun yarn! It's not as "ugly" as you think. I made a crochet hat from one and a knit hat from another. I still wear them over a decade later.
