Aroace Cake for the kid update: sides are done! I took a little break because I hated the bamboo needles so much. Finally got new metal needles so was able to complete side 2. I love how the white stripe looks like the middle icing.
I’ll start on the cake bottom tomorrow (dark blue) and then I still have to figure out what to do about the icing around the outside. I was thinking of doing the non-binary flag for them, but it may be too many stripes. I might just stick with white.

The black is a mystery yarn from before.

Top right is Schoppel-Wolle Reggae Ombré. You can't see the ombré effect here but it's also pink, purple, and deep green.
Bottom left is super fluffy Red Heart Calista. I don't even know which direction it goes in or was knitted in - it's so fluffy.
Bottom right is Rico Creative Galaxy Chunky, so called because it has black sequins that sparkle within it.
4 knitted patches next to each other other. Black, teal, a very fluffy brown which looks kind of like it's an animal, and a gradient with black sequins.

I'm going to have a challenge next month. I'm meant to travel and don't want to take much with me. Maybe I will take a couple balls of yarn and 1 set of needles and knit different patterns with the same yarn? But if I want to incorporate them into my chaos blanket, I should maybe start to leave random gaps for them to fit in later? What say you?

Is anyone else working on a Beekeeper’s Quilt? There are 10.5K projects listed on Rav but many are abandoned or finished at much much smaller sizes. When one is grafting garter stitch, one brings out all the tools— stronger readers (regular ones perched on top of head for later use), neck lights to illuminate the work surface, internet tutorial because one cannot remember the steps, and (not seen) glass of wine for when done.

It's pretty (relatively) expensive for anything cedar to ward off Wool moths.

I did an experiment. I put drops of clove oil directly into a clean fleece that was infected with Wool moths.
... the Wool moths and their larvae died. In the fleece. The infection of that bit of fleece ended.

Wool moth males smell pheromones given off by females (pheromone traps). Adults don't eat. Only the larvae do.

Tbh my first reaction would be to take a baseball bat and beat the yarn basket until the bat breaks. (I don't own a cricket bat, my part of the family isn't THAT British.)

Idk why my first reaction is "SMASH TO KILL!!" or "BURN IT WITH ALL OF THE FIRE!!"

Idk how else in that moment to kill tiny winged demons that eat yarn.

(I've done the moth kill saga before though.)

@aluminumneedles I'm knitting in the corner at a party and guys my age stop by to tell me I remind them of their aunt, of their grandmother. This is a compliment and I take it as such. They confess to having tried crochet once, and I smile. They get back in line for the bathroom. I'm knitting in the corner at a party and a queer woman sits on the floor next to me, arranges her skirt, and smiles up at me. (I try not to blush.) She asks me all the questions on her mind about my craft and I answer them, hands still moving. We swap yarn sources. She doesn't stay, but she knows where to find me. I'm knitting in the corner at a party and everyone knows where to find me when they need a minute, when socializing is too much and the music is too loud and they need to catch their breath. They pretend to be checking in on me, which is sweet, but I can see the relief in their eyes the moment they stop performing for a house full of people. They sit down and tell me things and all the while they never take their eyes off my hands. The party has wound down and I'm still knitting and the hosts, two guys in their twenties, thank me for "helping to curate the vibe." I had no idea that's what I was doing. I leave the party having forgotten to drink anything and without that woman's number but with many rows added to my top-down raglan sweater. I call it a night, and a good one.

Usually, I dye yarn to reflect colours in photos (mine or licensed) but one thing I don’t do is use AI to generate matching images. This is mainly because I enjoy working this way. To me, it’s authentic and valuable. I also think photographers would rather be paid for their work than have it just used to train AI without permission or compensation. Finished the cable knit hat for my Grandma-in-law. Last time we visited she mentioned not having a warm hat and being worried about having to leave the house to go to hospital for any reason.

She's a former knitter who's now nearly blind so I thought a cable would be a good pattern so she can feel it, rather than colourwork she wouldn't really be able to see.

I hope it brings her some joy because she's not having a good time of it these days.

Has anyone ever seen a fair-isle sampler like this before? From the last century or earlier. If so, please get in touch!

I've found two so far, and I'm really keen to find out if this was a common way of recording favourite colours and patterns amongst knitters.

This was my granny's and she used it to record her fav patterns passing through the Hunters of Brora wool mill shop she worked in.

I’m not really a cardigan person and this is not really my style. But for some reason, I find this design fascinating, and I think it would look fantastic in handspun. It’s a reverse rib stitch pattern that is two rows of knit alternating with two rows of purl so kind of like deeper bolder garter stitch ridges. Also finished this dishcloth recently.

My mum asked for some knitted dishcloths, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to go through my Vogue Knitting Stitch Dictionary book and practice some of the neat patterns showcased in there. :) This one is called "Eyelet Blocks" with a garter stitch border, and an added i-cord loop for hanging.

A piece with mixed emotions connected to it.

I learned knitting from my mom, about 50 years ago.

After getting sick about 2.5 years ago, she had to give up any fibercrafts and so I made this stole for her - it were just her colors.

When she died last year, I took that stole with me. It's absolutely not in my colors, so I have a hard to combine it with anything but I still wear it now and then.
