Love this beautiful Art Nouveau style tenement tile pattern, featuring Scottish Bluebells. It's from a tenement close in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow.

OMG, genau mein Ding! Mit einem schönen #Innenhof wie diesem in #Salamanca kann man mich sehr glücklich machen // OMG that's just my thing! Give me a beautiful #courtyard like this one in Salamanca any day

A slightly low-angle shot captures the interior courtyard of a historic building. The courtyard is defined by ornate, light-coloured stone archways and columns that frame the open space. The ground is paved with uneven, grey cobblestones, appearing slightly damp. In the centre of the courtyard is a weathered stone well with a metal mechanism. Several potted green plants are placed around the well. The building has multiple levels, with balconies featuring decorative railings overlooking the courtyard. The walls are constructed from similar light-coloured stone, and some windows and doorways are visible on the various levels. The architecture suggests a Renaissance or similar historical style, with intricate carvings and details in the stonework. Natural light illuminates the courtyard from above.

Sorry noch eins ... Für uns Provinzler sieht das (ehemalige) #SonyCenter am #PotsdamerPlatz schon seit fast 30 Jahren #futuristisch aus // Sorry, another one ... For almost 30 years now, the (former) Sony Center at the Potsdamer Platz in #Berlin looks #futuristic to us yokels

A low-angle, wide shot at night showcases the illuminated blue canopy of the Sony Center in Berlin. The modern architectural structure features a central circular element from which radiating, sail-like panels extend outwards and upwards. These panels are brightly lit from underneath with a vibrant blue light, creating a striking contrast against the dark night sky visible at the edges.
Surrounding the canopy are tall, contemporary buildings with numerous illuminated windows, suggesting office or commercial spaces. Their glass and metal facades reflect some of the blue light, adding to the overall luminescence of the scene. The perspective emphasizes the height and scale of the canopy and the surrounding urban environment.

Sometimes church ceilings are quite astonishing, aren't they? I came across this one last week - in a country church in Cornwall.

Saint Mungo and the robin on an exposed gable of the Scottish Renaissane style early 1900s Bell o' the Brae tenements on High Street in Glasgow. The mural was created by Smug and was painted in 2016.

Here's something a little different.

It wasn't always gorgeous weather during our stay around the East Neuk of Fife. When it was more gloomy, we headed to Dundee to check the city out.

In particular, the V&A Dundee Museum of Design proved a totally fascinating subject https://www.iancylkowski.com/blog/2025/3/13/the-va-design-museum-dundee-scotland-winter

The interior of the V&A Dundee, showcasing a modern architectural design. The space features a striking wooden wall with layered panels, creating a dynamic visual effect. The floor is made of dark tiles, and there are large glass windows allowing natural light to flood the area. In the centre, a staircase leads to an upper level adorned with wooden seating and displays. People are seen walking through the space, engaging with the environment, while a reception area is visible on the right. The ceiling is lined with horizontal wooden beams, enhancing the contemporary feel of the venue.
Another stunning interior view of the V&A Dundee, focusing on the flowing wooden wall that elegantly curves upward. The scene is viewed from a staircase leading down to the lower level, where visitors can be seen walking. Above, large windows allow ample natural light to brighten the space, and glimpses of the upper level reveal a bustling area with people seated and enjoying their surroundings. The staircase features glass railings and dark tiled steps, while the lower level showcases various exhibits and displays, including signage for "Locke Hall." The overall design combines modern architecture with warm wooden elements, creating an inviting atmosphere.
The striking exterior of the V&A Dundee, emphasising its unique architectural design. The building features a series of layered concrete panels that create a dramatic, angular façade, resembling the hull of a ship. In the foreground, a smooth, reflective surface of water mirrors the structure, enhancing its visual impact. The ground is wet, from recent rain, adding a subdued atmosphere under a cloudy sky. There are a few figures in the scene, providing a sense of scale against the impressive backdrop of the museum. The overall composition highlights both the contemporary design of the building and its harmonious relationship with the surrounding environment.
A captivating view from within the V&A Dundee, looking out towards the city of Dundee. The foreground features the building's distinctive layered concrete structure, creating a dynamic framing effect around the view. Beyond the architectural elements, the scene reveals a bustling urban environment, with various buildings and pedestrians visible in the distance. The surface beneath is smooth and wet, reflecting the cloudy sky overhead. To the right, a gently curving water feature adds a serene touch to the setting, while the overall composition highlights the contrast between the museum's modern design and the lively cityscape beyond.

I love the elegant curve of this streetlamp standing against the stark, modernistic and very, very red frontage of a Glasgow University building in the West End. The classical and modern designs work beautifully together.

Portrait-format colour image shows an elegant, black iron streetlamp which curves at the top and has smaller curves within its design, standing out against the layered, red panelled exterior of a Glasgow University building, which itself curves away into the distance.

I pass by this building in my neighborhood from time to time and always thought it was beautiful. Never realized it was originally an Anheuser-Busch owned tavern. Neat bit of local history.

The Chrysler Building.
I never tire of the Chrysler Building. It is iconic.

A black and white photoograph of the Chryselr Building and its near neighbours.
A black and white photograph of the Chrysler Building and surrounding buildings, taken from a crosswalk a block away.
The art deco Chrysler Building is seen in the background, nestling amongst more modern, steel-clad buildings. The top of the Chrysler Building is has several curves which lead to a sharp point. Beneath this, it has a more typical block like structure, moving in steps until it fills the block.
The buildings in front of it are from the 1950s or 60s, their facade decorated.
In front of these is a silhouetted hanging set of traffic lights on a curved arm.
The bottom of the picture is dark in shadow.
A black and white photograph of the top of the Chrysler Building.
The top floor are housed in a series of curves which meet together to finish in a sharp point. Windows in the curves are triangular, which make the whole look like an stylised image of the sun.
Beneath the curves are a series of eagle-shaped gargoyles.
The floors below this are standard, box-like design of concrete, steel and glass.
A colour photograph of the Chrysler Building taken from some distance, so it is dwarfed by the surrounding nearer buildings.
The top of the Chrysler Building and its neighbours are lost in a fog, as if they are dissolving into the sky. The bottom of the picture is dark and shadowed.
Although a colour photograph, it has a monochrome feel to it.

Mjøstårnet is an 18-storey tall building, constructed of wood. An 85-metre-high wooden tower, located on the shore of Lake Mjøsa: The Wood Hotel in Brumunddal in #Norway.

At the time of completion in 2019, it was officially the world's tallest wooden building.

"I was very glad for the opportunity to see the site one last time before it went, but there didn't seem to be any great lesson to be drawn from it all. It seemed more than anything to be a final crowning moment of stupidity and failure in such a long string of stupidity and failure that tracing its origin wasn't even possible any more. Not that anyone was bothering to do so..." - @AbandonedAmerica
