🧵 1/2 The ruin of the compressor room of an oil mine in France, the Carreau Clemenceau in Pechelbronn in Alsace. During the pandemic, I had the honour of being given a private tour for an article (The site is closed except for museum events and group tours. It is the extension of the national petroleum museum). More in alt text.

A big industrial window between walls of red bricks shows the inside of a vast roofless hall. Green plants like ivy, brambles, and even small trees proliferate on the walls and inside. On the opposite wall, big iron constructions are still visible, completely rusted. The buildings date from the First World War, when the Germans extracted the oil from oil sands for their war machine. They had occupied Alsace at the time and Alsatian workers had to labour here to supply power for weapons, which were also directed against their own families in France.

Couldn’t resist this cheeky robin for my Daily #Wales in winter (there are hills in the mirror, though they look miles away) - and it’s also a #FensterFreitag, if you count the car window. This is a beach car park, the dunes held back by that wall, and it’s hugely busy in season; the birds are dauntless in search of extra treats (they get plenty).
The left of the image is part of a car window and wing mirror; standing on the mirror’s top is a robin redbreast. The car is parked against a tall grey wall which not only holds back the dunes peeking over the top, but also provides a perfect backdrop for the robin.

For #FensterFreitag, the Rainbow Panorama walkway at #ARoS in #Aarhus again, this time from a couple of weeks ago. #Denmark #Danmark
A family walking around a circular walkway on the roof of an art gallery. The windows are tinted with different colours all the way round, here merging from blue to purple to pink to orange.
