Looking Out on the realm

Northern Mockingbirds (Mimus polyglottos) are highly territorial. This one perches atop a small pine tree, surveying the landscape below, likely on the lookout for prey.

Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story.

"This image showcases the northern mockingbird perched gracefully atop a pine tree. Its grayish-brown feathers, contrasting with its pale underparts, are beautifully captured. Its signature long tail adds to its elegance, and the bird appears vigilant, gazing towards the right. The clear, serene sky in the background complements the natural setting, emphasizing the bird's distinctive features. The credit "© Swede's Photographs" in the bottom corner adds a touch of professionalism to this striking nature shot. It truly embodies the beauty of wildlife photography!" - Copilot

Hello! I'm new to #Mastodon and also to the #Fediverse in general. Still setting up shop and figuring out how it all works.

By way of #Introduction, I'm a #Photographer based in #Edmonton, #Alberta, #Canada, shooting primarily #Wildlife and #Nature, with a healthy dose of #Landscapes thrown in ☺️

Here are a few of my all-time favourites to get a sense of what I'm into
Photo of Abraham Lake, frozen in the winter, at sunset.- Bubbles are seen under the surface of the ice, leading into the background of mountains along the horizon. Pink and purple hues dominate the sunset sky.
Photo of a storm cell moving towards the photographer over a canola field.
Photo of a black-capped chickadee sitting on a branch; snow is gently falling all around
Photo of pink tulips with a fringed edge. Focus is on one tulip in the middle, with foreground and background tulips blurred using a shallow depth of field.

Hey Mastodon let’s have a shot at this #introduction thing

My name is Dale, I’m a landscape #photographer from the East Coast of Australia

I mainly capture #nature & #landscape images from the Aussie Alps (yep it's a thing) & New Zealand - I love a good adventure & half the fun of what I do is working out how to get to & survive being in the middle of nowhere

Here are a few of my fav pics taken over the last couple of years...

Cheers!
an image taken from the middle of a New Zealand stream looking through rocks & trees towards a mountain in the distance with light shining through
An image of a sunset at a beach on a rocky outcrop full of orange starfish & large rocks leaning into the distance
a cold rocky image of the Australian Alps with icicles on the right hand side & hash light hitting a pointy rock on the background
an image of a mountain at sunrise with a series of roots in the foreground leading the eye through the frame

Howdy to Mastodon! I'm still wrapping my head around things here but figured I'd go ahead and do an #introduction.

I'm a #landscape and #nature #photographer based out of Fort Worth, #Texas which means, aside from my local park, I do a LOT of driving for #photography, especially to #utah and the desert southwest.

I produce my own #prints for sale, create educational and in-field videos for YouTube, and also offer workshops.

Hey Mastodon!

Thank you for the warm welcome from my #introduction post yesterday! What a cool place you all have here!

I'm a #photographer from #colorado and one of my favorite subjects to photograph is smaller scenes of nature.

I've fallen more in love with #photography over the years as a result of this predilection since it allows me to slowly move about the landscape and respond and react to the nuances of nature and express myself visually. I hope you like these.

Cheers!

Time for my Mastodon #introduction I guess! First, to remember Mastodon only has one A in it!

Photographer friends recommended the platform, and I have been here for a few days getting a feel for the place. I am always interested in communities of photographers.

My name is Jeffrey and I am a landscape #photographer based in the #usa. I have a YouTube channel on landscape photography, lead workshops, and travel to various areas in the US.

Below are a few samples of my #landscapephotography

My little #introduction

I am a nature #photographer and I came here seeking a meaningful community, as traditional social media never felt right for me.

I’m a based in #tamborinemountain in #Australia #Queensland.

My work focuses on landscapes, with some wildlife when the opportunity arises, showcasing my region, the #Scenicrim from lonely tree in open fields to ancient trees in the mountain’s rainforests of #Lamington

I hope you will enjoy my photos !

Hi Mastodon, time for an #introduction !

With Instagram getting continually worse I thought I'd give this a go. Looks like a promising platform and I'm excited to see where it goes.

My name is Cru and I'm a landscape #photographer from Rainbow Beach, #Queensland #Australia

My photography is mostly #nature and #landscape images. I sell my images as prints and for licensed use. This past year, much of my images have been taken in #Tasmania.

Hi there, I’m new to Pixelfed.

I’m a #photographer who loves shooting in nature, cool architecture, and abstracts. My work often explores the beauty of light and subtlety in landscapes and #abstract forms.

I'm also a #digitalartist. My process always begins with one of my photos, and usually gets rinsed through multiple mobile and desktop art apps, often separated into layers after hand-painting selections in Photoshop. #NotAI

The process of hand-painting selections has become a trusted meditative outlet for me and brings me great peace while I'm doing it. I rarely have a goal in mind when I start a piece of art; it's the journey that scratches the itch.

I've included a couple of examples of my work on this post - one of my favorite #landscape shots, Dawn on Figueroa Mountain, and an art piece called Illume Too, which was released along with one of my downtempo DJ mixes a while back. I make a piece of art to accompany every mix, and there are more than 130 mixes so far.

Looking forward to connecting with this visual community!

One of the best shots of the Milky Way that I've captured to date. This is a 20-image stack of minute-long exposures taken with the aid of a tracking mount to keep the camera gently centered on our galaxy. The dark skies are courtesy of a sparsely populated corner of the Ozark Mountains in north central Arkansas. I can't wait for Milky Way season this year and opportunities to get more photos like this one.

It's an interesting exercise posting an #introduction I'm here because increasingly I am seeing traditional social media become anti-social media.

I miss the days of ICQ and to a lesser extent MSN Messenger. I also miss the original IRC and the joy people had of even having the opportunity to be online and connect. Hopefully we can rediscover that joy of connection in new places.

I'm a #photographer so you can expect that from me on my profiles. Thanks for reading!

Feathered Sunshine

This charming male American goldfinch (Spinus tristis) made a visit to my backyard this morning, joining a lively group of others

"When Brown-headed Cowbirds lay eggs in an American Goldfinch nest, the cowbird egg may hatch but the nestling seldom survives longer than three days. The cowbird chick simply can’t survive on the all-seed diet that goldfinches feed their young." - allaboutbirds.org

Invisible Jumpers

Photographer Joseph Ford and knitter Nina Dodd have for the last several years worked on their collaborative project called Invisible Jumpers, in which Dodd would knit a garment that blends in with a chosen environment and then Ford would photograph the wearer. The book was published in 2019 ... but the project continues adding animals, arists, musicians to the project. As Ford explains:

"The locations have to be eye-catching but simple enough to be able to be knitted. They also have to be places that aren’t going to change too fast, as the knitting takes a few weeks...

Once I’ve found the location, I photograph someone standing where I would like the model to be in the final picture. I draw over this scouting photograph and annotate the picture with different colors and patterns so Nina can plan how to knit. Often there are 10 or 12 different shades of yarn in a single picture, and up to 24 balls of wool at any one time for the more complicated designs. The choice of yarn has varied according to the background."

Birdfeeder Raider

Here is an eastern gray squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) doing its best to maintain balance while eating at a bird feeder.

I don't post all of the photos that I post here to my Pixels gallery, but I post the photos I like best. Some don't make the cut. I usually wait a couple of days and see how I feel about it then.

You can check out my gallery at:

https://swede1952-photographs.pixels.com

"The image shows a squirrel raiding a bird feeder. The squirrel is perched on top of the bird feeder, which is filled with seeds. It's gripping the metal hanger of the feeder with its front paws and appears to be eating or trying to access the seeds inside. The bird feeder is a cylindrical mesh container with a metal lid and base. The background is a white wall, and there is a watermark on the right side of the image that reads "© Swede's Photographs."

This image captures a common but amusing scenario where a squirrel, known for its agility and resourcefulness, is accessing food meant for birds. It highlights the adaptability and cleverness of squirrels in finding food sources." - Copilot

Sparrow and Blue Sky

This is a chipping sparrow (Spizella passerina) one of the species that I photograph the most.

I've had several inquiries about how to get a print of some my photographs. This is a hobby for me, so I haven't been equipped to handle those requests. But I enjoy what I'm doing and want to share my photographs.

So, I set up an account and website with pixels. My website is:

swede1952-photographs.pixels.com

If you want a print of one of my photographs, you can get it there, If I haven't loaded it, let me know which one it is, and I'll gladly load it there for you.

"The image shows a sparrow perched on a tree branch. The bird has a light brown and white plumage with a distinctive reddish-brown streak on its head. The background is a clear blue sky, and the branches of the tree are visible around the bird. The bird appears to be calmly resting on the branch, and the photograph captures the details of its feathers and the texture of the tree bark. The image is interesting because it highlights the natural beauty of the bird and its surroundings, showcasing a moment of tranquility in nature. Good morning. 😴⏰☕

9 July 2024

A few weeks ago, I received a reply on Mastodon from a guy who was upset because I updated a post that I made months ago. It seemed to bother him greatly that I corrected a spelling error on an old post. When I notice errors, I do take the time to correct them, and I use old content. I explained what I was doing to the guy, and it seemed to bother him even more because he felt the need to try and insult me online, so I blocked him. But I wonder, I won, won, wonder, why it bothered him so much 🎶.

Hmmm ... Charlie is bugging me and Ben is barking, it must be close to mealtime.

The reflection creates a symmetrical effect, with the real grass above and its mirror image below, divided by the waterline. A watermark or signature on the right-side reads “© Swede's Photographs” indicating copyright ownership." - Copilot

Blue Jay

Here is a photo of a blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) that I took in October 2023. I haven't seen any of these birds in a few weeks, I know that they are still around though. Perhaps they are deeper in the forest. My guess I'll see them more when it starts getting really cold, especially it snows. Yes, it occasionally snows in Louisiana.

"The oldest known wild, banded Blue Jay was at least 26 years, 11 months old when it was found dead after being caught in fishing gear. It had been banded in the Newfoundland/Labrador/St. Pierre et Miquelon area in 1989 and was found there in 2016." - allaboutbirds.org

This blue jay perches on a black metal shepherd's hook with its back facing the camera. The bird has its head turned towards the camera obviously aware that I'm there. Its black beak has the shape of a pointed wedge. There is a black mark at the base of the beak shaped like a wide letter "H." The crest on top of its head is flattened and blue, but its face is white with black markings. Its back and wings are blue, and the flight feathers are elaborately decorated with checkers of blue, white, and black. Its tail feathers are blue with horizontal black stripes at mostly even intervals, its breast is white, and its legs and feet are gray.

"Large, crested songbird with broad, rounded tail. Blue Jays are smaller than crows, larger than robins. White or light gray underneath, various shades of blue, black, and white above." - allaboutbirds.org
