In my off season this past fall, I decided to go to Kauai and go backpacking all over the island. Coming from Alaska it was quite pleasant to wear shorts constantly and have good fresh fruit everywhere you went. While I was camping on the west side of the island I decided to pull the camera out and get some Milky Way shots. What I totally forgot about was the #comet C/2023 A3 passing by our planet.

The hooting and hollering that I made when I first looked at the image could be heard for miles.

The upper part of the cloud is lit up from the moon rising behind the island creating a very pleasing image.
I am shooting this on a #sony A7iii with a 20mm f1.8 lens. 30” exposure, iso 1250

Almost 4 #StarLink satellites fall back to Earth every day and they rain out aluminum oxide into the stratosphere which destroys the ozone layer. These microsatellites are more and mire problematic with every article I read.

I found the “sister” of M33. Her name, NGC2403. They are pretty much alike. Have more or less the same size, shape, and they both feature a very big nebula: NGC604 in M33 and NGC2404 in the sister galaxy. Though, they got mad of each other, and now they are millions of l-y appart.

A spiral galaxy, spotted with pink blobs here and there, has a bright and tight core in its center. The arms of the galaxy expand and fade away into the vacuum of space. Although of majestic aspect, it’s only half the size of our own galaxy.

#Caldwell 25 - #NGC 2419, also known as the #IntergalacticWanderer, is a #globularcluster located in the #constellation #Lynx, approximately 270,000 light-years away from Earth. The #cluster reaches its annual culmination at astronomical midnight and is best observed around mid-January.

Amongst my three attempts at astrophotography, this was the one somewhat successful excursion. The biggest lesson I learned that night is that when a pack of coyotes about 100 ft away howl, don’t panic. I was sure I’d get eaten.

I took copious notes from that night but have since misplaced them; the two brightest stars are planets. Don’t remember which ones, though.

A starry sky with a yellow glow hovers over a fog shrouded hill. The Milky Way is rising from the left, and a foggy orange glow from traffic outlines the silhouette of trees on the bottom right.

One of the best shots of the Milky Way that I've captured to date. This is a 20-image stack of minute-long exposures taken with the aid of a tracking mount to keep the camera gently centered on our galaxy. The dark skies are courtesy of a sparsely populated corner of the Ozark Mountains in north central Arkansas. I can't wait for Milky Way season this year and opportunities to get more photos like this one.

The core of the Milky Way arcs vertically into the sky. The orange-tinted glow of city lights along the horizon fade in a star-filled tapestry into the inky black void above.

There are mighty rivals for the famous Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula, like these, located in the not so famous SH2 284 nebula. You can find these in the Unicorn.

An explosion of colorful clouds, layered in reddish, yellow, green and blue shades, stained with dark clouds that give the object character and depth. Many distant stars sparkle the whole picture.

The #NightSky over #LaSilla in #Chile at 1:18 UTC, with the #comet at the horizon and lots of other sky objects labeled, including four #planets (currently the subject of the global false internet meme that they have "lined up" or something; here you see that they are actually spread all over the sky).

18/01/2025 - Evening walk to see some stars. It had been a busy day. It was nice to spend the evening in the quiet of the universe. Just us and trillions of stars. Up and round the hill. We had tea with us and our scope. We found a quiet spot, hidden away and watched the night sky turn for a few hours. Temp was close to zero but the stars were worth it.

Photo is M33 Triangulum Galaxy. 2.73 million light-years away and thought to be home to 40 billion stars.

Our spot for a few hours. One of us setting up the tripod for the scope in the dark. We did have to move a little soon after, just a short distance to get away from the wind as it was cold and rocking the scope.
An hour past sunset. There's a nice fading yellow/blue light to the sky as it darkens beyond trees. Venus can be seen on the left with a faint Saturn next to it.

On January 21, 2025 there will be a planetary alignment of six planets. Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Venus, and Saturn will all be visible at the same time. All but Neptune will be visible to the naked eye.

This image is a depiction of a planet map from the Northern Hemisphere.

Two anonymous anemonae! LBN 807 is a strong emission nebula that is being carved by numerous and potent young blue stars.

Shot for a total of about 14 hours from my observatory on a rooftop in Mexico City.

Some say the distinguishing features of this nebula look like tadpoles… I don’t think so 🙂.
