Our politicians keep telling us what we want or don't want, but when it comes down to it, most people know that cities need to be more green.

Good for you, Hobart, following similar recent stories in Paris and Vancouver.

A food hub was launched on our campus. Informally, there have been ways to get food to students who can't afford to eat everyday. We always have a "free food shelf" in the student kitchens. But this is new! Hope the food hub can help students in need, maybe I should go there  #Tasmania #FoodSecurity

I don't usually buy the local newspaper, because it is crap. But my chess student was featured on the front page on Friday, so it had to be done...

Front page of the Tasmanian Mercury newspaper. The main story is about reducing speed limits to 30km in school zones. But the top half has an image of a young boy surrounded by trophies and wearing medals with the headline "Yusuf has all the moves".

Woolies in Georgetown. No self serve registers. Ampol petrol station they come out and fill up for you. Everyone complaining about the weather #smalltown #tasmania

#introduction Hi everyone, I joined a while ago, but didn’t give it much a go, but want to now. All other social media pisses me off. Proud chess coach today as one of my students finished second in his age group at the Australian National Junior Championship. I'm not sure Tasmania has ever won a medal at the Australian Junior Chess Championship before, let alone a silver.

Eric Abetz, Tasmanian minister for exclusivity and planetary destruction seems to argue that Tasmania's forestry practices are wrong, but others are even more wrong so we should keep doing what we're doing.

Hi Mastodon, time for an #introduction !

With Instagram getting continually worse I thought I'd give this a go. Looks like a promising platform and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Got our milk delivery. We are using local milk from a Venezuelan family who herd their cows in Smithton. They just started up! They’ll be moving to glass bottles very soon 🥰 #LecheFresca #tasmania #barista
A 2 litre bottle of milk with a round blue label with Leche Fresca on it. And a use by label.

Australia has a reputation for dangerous animals.

Here's a Pademelon. They can be skittish when they zoom off and can bump into your shins if you're in their way 😅

A small wallaby like marsupial called a Pademelon. It has a short tail and rounded ears, which are sticking up in the photo. It is hunched over forward picking at the vegetation. It has greyish brown fur

The echidnas are very busy at the moment. I saw three yesterday and two today. Some are quite timid and curl up every time the camera's shutter goes off and others don't care at all.

Photo of an echidna with its head down, searching for ants, while walking from left to right in front of a pond. Its black-tipped cream spines poke through in coarse brown fur. It has a very small dark eye and long nose that is wet at the end. Long claws protrude from its backward-facing back feet.
Closeup ohoto of an echidna's spines, which are cream-coloured, fading to black at the ends.

When threatened echidnas don't attack but, instead, they quickly roll up and dig their legs into the ground, protected all over by the sharp spines. If you touch the echidna its whole body jerks and it stabs you in the finger. Guess how I know?
Photo of an echidna walking from right to left on grassy paving outside my kitchen. One front leg is up showing long fingernails, although not as long as the back claws shown in the other photo. This ones beak is held up as it isn't looking for food and is on its way somewhere.
