The bricks are very small and unevenly worn, so they look a bit like pointillist dots rather than geometric rectangles. Running down the right of the frame is a long very narrow arched window, divided into small squares by a metal grille and blocked behind so that it is solid rust-red. Along the top of the frame, a wide strip of ornamentation, which looks like a band of brown lace. A grey-brown juvenile seagull is in flight almost in the centre of the frame, and in the strong sunlight you can make out its shadow below.

Frost flowers in suburbia. #TextureTuesday
Photo of the sodden, dark gold and ochre grasses and snowy ruffles of the verge alongside a neighborhood street. On closer examination, the snow is a mass of frost flowers, each arcing along the bent, curved grasses and curled, fallen branches of wild rose and blackberry. Each arc and spray is like a diadem of geodic sparkle in a row of reaching antler-like shapes, all nestled together and making crystalline arches as though someone were idly filling the frame with flower after doodled flower.

Photo of balls, tufts, and the fluffy, wayward litter of cattail seeds from a cattail burst open like a stuffed toy. Arrays of tiny gold seeds that wink in the sunlight amidst the soft detritus appear like stars in the white and gold firmament of fluff cast across the gravel trail within a local (off camera) wetland reserve.

Dreamily filtered photo of a dozen or so round, plump, dark red rosehips with spare, dark, leafy sepals that billow quietly out and dangle in thin curls, making the fruits look like octopuses or little aliens that have attached themselves to the bare, winter branches by thin stems. Clustered on the "legs" of some of these miniature octopuses and a few of the branches are dozens of thin crystalline sprays of spiky hoarfrost. The hazy white filtering that vignettes the photo is echoed in the frozen white fog of the sky that hovers beyond the wild rose bush, giving a supernatural ambience to the scene.

Colour photo taken looking down at five narrow stone steps leading from pavement down to into the water of a canal. The bottom half of the frame is the steps: the top one made of slabs of brown-grey stone with a tiny little green plant optimistically growing in the bottom left hand corner, and the rest covered in furry green seaweed which becomes increasingly densely flecked with brown as they descend. The water is a bright turquoise blue, gently undulating and rippled, with pale yellow sunlight catching on the crests, so that it looks a bit like distant rolling hills. The contrast between the hard sharp lines of the stone, the fuzzy edges of the seaweed, and the fluid lines in the water is quite pleasing.
