#ThickTrunkTuesday one day late:

130 year old Lebanese cedar, one of the in all of Hungary. Such a magnificent tree.

Photo of a tall cedar tree surrounded by a chain link fence covered in ivy. The sun peeks through the branches. There is fall foliage in the background and a clear blue sky. The tree has a wide canopy.
Close up of the tree's dark green canopy with the sun peeking through.

This morning on the tram:

A little old lady in a traditional Transylvanian dress (skirts and petticoats, blouse, head scarf, etc.) was sitting on the tram, completely absorbed in a book.

The book was an erotic thriller titled "In the bed of the mafia"

Go little old lady

Saw this stork today, sizing up an ice cream truck outside the stork sanctuary. Wonder what they were in the mood for. 😄

Today seems to be the day of ominous #BadMarketing messages.

I just saw a cement mixer truck with a sign that said: "Cement. For a lasting relationship."

I found my new favorite coffee shop in Budapest 🥰 Pompeii Latte Art Cafe. They have a bookshelf entirely filled with books on Greek and Roman mythology! And archeology. And the coffee is amazing too. And you get quotes from Classical authors with your drink, on little scrolls. How cool is that?

Interior photo of the shop. Round tables and art deco chairs, decorated with colorful mosaics. A bookshelf featuring several books on mythology (and more books under the sugar and coffee bean cups on every table). Quotes painted on the walls.

The "Seven Chiefs" plane tree on Margaret Island, Budapest. Almost 200 years old, it was injured during the siege in WWII and regrew with 6 trunks (one of which branched in two later).

At the Budapest International Book Fair, where you can get a free haircut for reading out loud. 😄

Photo from the book fair building. There is a colorful carpet on the floor, with books scattered on it. A girl sits on a small chair, reading from a yellow book, while a man kneels behind her, cutting her hair. There are people sitting and standing around, listening.

So we ran into an exhibit of old timey trams on the Szabadság Bridge. I took some photos for all y'all who followed me for the training tram pictures 😆

This one was made in 1908 and restored in 1987.

Photo of an old wood frame tram, painted brown, white and orange, with the number 611 on the front. Doors are a waist-high metal lattice that open and close by hand. In the background part of the green metal bridge structure is visible, and behind it Gellért Mountain.
Photo of the inside of the tram, drivers window. Very few parts, one bell button, two hand cranks, wood frames on the windows. Beyond, the bridge and the mountain are visible.

Doing some #storytelling today at the Aquincum Amphitheater in Budapest 😊 Two-day Roman festival, gladiators, battles, living history, all kinds of fun.

I have two sets of stories, one of little known Greek and Roman myths (such as an alternate version of Achilles' heel), and one of Caucasian Nart sagas (since we have Sarmatian reenactors on site). My little archeologist heart is happy 😊

Selfie with the ruins of the Amphitheater in the background. I (30s white woman, red hair, glasses) am wearing white and blue Roman garb. Behind me in the arena there are tents and yurts for the reenactors, and a large square of sand for the upcoming gladiator fights.

If anyone wonders what Captain Budapest would be like:

I was walking along the Danube yesterday when a guy tore past on a bicycle. He looked like Santa but was jacked like a body builder, wearing only a helmet and tidy whities. "I need a hero" was blasting from his portable speaker.

😂

I just saw a veterinary clinic named "To the Lame Dog" like it is a pirate tavern or something 😆
