Yesterday I discovered tons of new interesting accounts thanks to your site💯
Have you ever considered translating the site in other languages?
The text on the site is available under Creative Commons By SA licence, and some people have made their own versions of the site in other languages.

These are linked at the bottom of this page:

If you want to do your own version of the site in other languages, feel free as long as you link back to the original 🙂
I see there already a French traduction here https://enthalpiste.fr/index.php/fedi-trucs/ so I’m good. Thanks for your hard work!
can I drop a Question here? How do I link to BlueSky. I know there’s a way but I can’t seem to figure it out. New to Fediverse. Thank you.
I'm sorry, I don't provide Bluesky support, the people who run it seem a bit dubious (https://social.growyourown.services/@FediTips/113364985280012085) 😦
How can I follow accounts in other fediverse socials from my Mastodon account? Is it possible?
Yes!

You follow them exactly as you would follow any account: just click on the name and click "follow".

For example, this is a Pixelfed account:

:PixelFed: @Iancylkowski

If you click on it within Mastodon it will look like a Mastodon account, but it's actually a Pixelfed account.

Another example, this is a PeerTube account:

:PeerTube: @helenmclaughlin

You can follow it just like any other account. If you reply to a video in Mastodon, it appears a a comment in PeerTube.
Great! Thank you
another one: how can I browse accounts I may be interested in (for ex. on peertube), always from my Mastodon app?
There are lots of ways you can discover accounts, most of them work in a cross-platform way.

For example if you do a search in Mastodon, the search results will be from a variety of platforms, not just Mastodon.

Here's a guide for how to discover accounts to follow:

https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-find-accounts-to-follow-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-how-do-i-find-my-friends/
How can I see all the accounts I already follow both on Mastodon and Pixelfed?
You can see the accounts you follow from your profile page. Click on your profile picture or username to go to your own profile.

Once you're on your profile, click on "Following" to see who you follow.
Thank you so much for all the awesome support you bring to newcomers joining us FediTips! You're the best! :dragon_heart:
Aww... cheers! 😊 That's really kind of you!

Well done for the support you're providing too!
Do you know of any app/website that searches for people you follow on Twitter/X on Mastodon? There were a couple but none of them work.
There used to be lots of them, but Musk shut them all down at his end when he took over Twitter 😞

There's nothing that can be done about this unfortunately.

Damm 😭 and what about an app to schedule toots? ☺️
Ah that's much easier! Mastodon has a built-in scheduling system supported by many third party apps and sites (though weirdly the official apps don't yet support it).

There's more info here: https://fedi.tips/scheduling-posts-on-mastodon/
thanks! I'll take a look
Thanks for all that you do! I just supported you on #Liberapay – I figure I recommend your accounts and site so often I should help with the running costs.
Aww, thank you so much! 🙏 That is really generous and greatly appreciated, it makes a huge difference in keeping these all going! 👏 Thanks!
Thank you so much for this resource! 💖 This site has been so helpful!
Is there an android client where you can reverse the scroll direction?
It doesn't make sense seeing the very end of long posts first. Quite peculiar.
Thanks for the really helpful work.

I'm not sure, I'm going to boost your question in case others can offer suggestions.

By the way, when you say "end of long posts first", do you mean the final posts of threads?
On the timeline or home, posts appear bottom first. In a thread, it's OK. Newer posts are at the bottom.

You mean the newest posts appear at the top?
Yes. You need to scroll them downwards to read them. It's the opposite to the thread direction.
I think this is what they're asking for: chronological vs. Reverse chronological.
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/22667
No. If a post in the timeline is, say, 20 rows of text, the last line at bottom of the post appears first, at the top of the screen as you scroll it downwards.
You will read "... the butler murdered him. The End" first.
Would also like to know, feel like I’m forever scrolling up instead of down like most apps
Most apps show the latest posts at the top like Mastodon does?

Is that not happening for you?
Dieser Beitrag wurde bearbeitet. (3 Tage her)
I should’ve explained better. I have been conditioned by algorithmic apps that I should be scrolling down the page rather than up. I’m not used to this chronological thing. So it would be nice if the feed order could be toggled to reverse.
But, you are scrolling down the page on Mastodon aren't you?

When you open most Mastodon apps it shows you the latest posts and then you scroll down from there to see older ones?

(By the way I'm not being snarky, just genuinely interested in different people's experiences! 🙂 )
Dieser Beitrag wurde bearbeitet. (3 Tage her)
Nope, scrolling up. My app opens where I left off, and I just keep scrolling up until I’m fully caught up to posts made within the last five minutes. Am I weird? 😂
I don't understand the question. can you please rephrase?
In the timeline/home, new posts arrive at the top and you scroll them downwards to see them. Older posts disappear off the bottom of the screen.
The requirement is an option to reverse this direction.
you want new posts to appear at the bottom, and then to scroll up to read them?

note: I still don't think I understand, because this seems to contradict your first description, as far as I could understand it. I'm not trying to be difficult -- just trying to understand, and perhaps help others understand too. that said, if you find my questions annoying, feel free to tell me and/or stop trying to answer them. maybe someone else will respond in a more helpful way!

I just read thru your exchange with feditips, which wasn't there yet when I started. I'm still confused 😅 but maybe getting closer!

so, you're scrolling along down, and at some point you see the last post in an extended thread, of which you haven't previously read the earlier posts? not ideal. you'd like the feed to handle extended threads differently so that you could more easily recognize them and start reading them from the beginning.
maybe?
No the threads are OK. It's the main timeline that has the problem.
Are you wanting the oldest posts to be at the top? With the newest posts at the bottom?
Yes. Newest posts at the bottom.
I use the default Mastodon android app and read posts in post order. Because new posts show up at the top, I start a session where I left off last time, with some number of new posts above, then scroll up until I run out of new posts. Because I'm scrolling up I see the bottom text of each post before I see the start of it or the author's name/picture, then scroll back down as I read it. It'd be nice if new posts were below so I didn't have to constantly switch scroll direction.
Yes this is the problem I'd like to find a solution to.
I think this is because a lot of people don't read every post, so they just want whatever is randomly latest at the top, whereas other people do read every post so they want to start where they left off (i.e. the oldest first).

I guess there ought to be options for both groups?
Dieser Beitrag wurde bearbeitet. (3 Tage her)
That sounds correct. I fall into the read every post camp, and unfollow anyone who overwhelms my feed. It'd be nice if the app was optimized for both directions/preferences.
If possible, I read all posts, starting with the last one I read. Fedilab for Android offered this option. This is not available in the Friendica web app, but I hope it will be added to improve the quality.
Thanks but I didnt find any setting in Fedilab for this, and by default newest posts arrive at the top. Not at the bottom as I'm trying to do.
Strange to me that no one seems to understand your problem. Just click on any post in the thread and you'll be taken to the full thread ordered first to last.
The thread direction is fine. It has newest at the bottom. It's the main timeline that has the problem.

People are confusing "threads" with "the main timeline".
People are confusing "scrolling up" with posts moving down. And people are confusing "first" and "last" with top and bottom as they see it.
Yes, I understand that, but your timeline problem is solved by clicking on whichever post you see and being taken to the, as you say, logically ordered thread, isn't it?
They're not wanting to reorder threads, they're wanting to reorder the way posts are presented to them. They want to read through their entire timeline starting with the oldest unread post and scroll down from that.
This: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/22667
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon-android/issues/952
They want to read like a book that is being written as you are reading it. New sentences appearing at the bottom.

Try Pachli for Android, and on Mona for iPhone...as suggested in 2nd link.

Those of us of a particular age would prefer to pretend this is Usenet of old. I’ve played with RSS export of individual accounts which is nice for following full content, but it was frustrating to interact as a poster.
As best I can tell, the behaviour you're describing -- which also irritates me a lot, too -- is caused mainly by the fact that all posts are Public by default, meaning they stand on their own and will be seen by anyone associated with that user, independent of the context of the post.

I've recommended that posts be Quiet by default for this reason, and about once a month recommend that people set that as their default, so far with limited success.
Your home timeline shows all posts from people you follow no matter what visibility setting they are. Your DMs show up in the same timeline, for example.

It's just because apps show newest unread posts at the top by default, and they're asking for an option to show the oldest unread at the top.

(What you say is true on the Local timeline though!)

VIP=Very important post

Tyvm for your work, do you need support?
Aww, thanks, that's very kind of you to ask.

I have a Ko-fi and Liberapay to help cover the bills from the sites and accounts, any kind of support is appreciated! 🙂

https://ko-fi.com/fedithing

https://liberapay.com/FediThing
i will try to spread it
I just wanted to say: thank you for being so kind and helpful. It must be time consuming, but still you do it. Its great that you are here.
Oh, thank you! 😊 That's really really kind of you to say, it makes it worthwhile if these accounts and sites are useful to people 😃
can you search for people on other kinds of servers (Pixelfed for example) through mastodon or do you have to have a Pixelfed account to specifically find pixelfed users? It would be nice to follow all kinds of other people in one united feed. And is there a way to link a mastodon account to a pixelfed account saying that you're the same person in both places? Just trying to reduce redundancy.
Accounts from all types of servers will show up in the search results: Mastodon, Pixelfed, PeerTube... whatever.

You can't link two accounts from different servers together, but you can verify that you're the same person by putting a link to your other account in your profiles on both.
Wow, thanks for the quick response!
