🌎 Roseate spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) The roseate spoonbill is a striking wading bird, easily identified by its vibrant pink plumage and distinctive spoon-shaped bill. Adults have a bare greenish head, and their pink colouration comes from their diet. They inhabit shallow fresh and coastal waters, ranging from the southeastern U.S. to central Argentina. They feed by sweeping their bills side-to-side in the water, catching small fish, crustaceans, and insects. Often seen in groups, they are social birds. No subspecies are recognised.
