Multi device setup with #deltachat only works within the same WiFi even though @n0iroh is integrated, a production quality P2P networking library for all platforms, with hole punching etc.

You may regard delta's "same wifi" restriction for multi-device setup as an additional protection against phishing attacks like Signal lately suffered https://cloud.google.com/blog/topics/threat-intelligence/russia-targeting-signal-messenger

Moreover, if your wifi does not work you can do a mobile hotspot and use that for transfer. No DNS/internet needed. Thanks Iroh :)
I just set up my account on my laptop, didn’t even knew this worked because I was on the same Wifi…
#deltachat
The hotspot trick is something that I didn't know. Great.
Question about signal's UI involved.
Is it possible that some form of UI smoothness/automatic in addition of device had helped an attack?
If task is sensitive, like adding device, force only one flow with user explicitly starting it and clicking on explicit things.
Analysis/opinion ?
can I set up delta chat with my regular Email@ or di I need a dedicated "chat" mail?
And how does delta know what is a chat and what is a mail?
you can use classic email but we recommend chatmail servers (if im doubt just the default one) for testing it out also with friends, family or affiliates. Later you can migrate or maybe just add a separate classic email profile if you really want to reuse an existing email address. One does not exclude the other because of pervasive Multi-Profile support on all delta apps.
Some time ago there were attempts to transfer accounts (don't remember the correct technical term) when users change an email address (like changing phone numbers). I guess there is no news, right?
address porting is supported and some users report success with it https://delta.chat/en/2022-09-14-aeap ... later this year we might have an update to improve on this "AEAP" feature.
Okay, this was one of my big hang-ups with DeltaChat, only being on a single device. I've got a bunch. And that I can use the real app and not a 3rd party one for a second Android device, unlike Signal, is also a boon.
we have few bug reports if any regarding multi device and multi profile support. You can expect it to just work on all platforms without restrictions.
