Passed this handwritten sign on the way to an appointment this morning. Quoted a moving poem about Gaza. It was hanging on the front fence of a terrace house in one of the inner suburbs. The poet is Em Brown, @ skinhungry on insta (looked it up afterwards). #gaza #poetry #poem #NewcastleNSW
Photo of a cardboard sign up on a wrought iron fence. The handwritten words quote a poem Because of Us by Em Brown which is about Gaza. Sorry about the ALLCAPS in advance, it's how the sign is written though not the original poem.

Because of Us

THIS MORNING I LEARNED, THE ENGLISH WORD gauze (finely woven medical clom)

COMES FROM THE ARABIC WORD' Ghazza

BC GAZANS HAVE BEEN SKILLED WEAVERS FOR CENTURIES

I WONDERED THEN HOW MANY OF OUR WOUNDS HAVE BEEN DRESSED BECAUSE OF THEM

AND HOW MANY OF THEIRS HAVE BEEN LEFT OPEN BELAUSE Of US [But things can change, because of us]
