For Japan, LP.8.1 is showing a growth advantage of 4.8% per day (34% per week) over the DeFLuQE variants. That predicts a crossover in late November.

Here's an animated map showing the spread of the LP.8.1 variant in Japan. The first single sample was detected in Tokyo in early October. It has since spread to some nearby areas, with apparent hotspots in the Gifu and Nagano regions.
