#RIPJimmyCarter -- #Humanitarian #ClimateChangePioneer #NiceGuy. My late grandmother volunteered to get him elected and worked on his re-election campaign, and said he was the only decent human being to run for the office. We both thought he had been set up by the #GOP -- and it turns out, we may have been right!

New claim about #IranHostageCrisis sabotage may change narrative of #Carter presidency

Mar 20, 2023

"In the summer of 1980, a prominent Republican close to #RonaldReagan's campaign sought to sabotage then-President Jimmy Carter's reelection by asking #MiddleEastern leaders to get a message to the #Iranians: Keep the American #hostages until after the election, and the Reagan administration will give you a better deal.

"That stunning reporting this weekend by The New York Times is prompting a rethinking of presidential history."

Exactly. All the eulogizing of Jimmy Carter on MSM completely ignores this fact: Republicans negotiated illegally behind Carter's back to get #Iran not to release the hostages til after Reagan was elected by offering them a "better deal," incl weapons from #Israel - American weapons sent to Israel for its defense & then shipped by Israel to #Iran. A kind of weapons laundering scam.

I heard about this years ago. Just like I heard about Nixon sabotaging the Vietnam peace talks before his 1968 election.

Traitorous behavior. Administrations could have been jailed for it, both times.

I'd argue what happened in 2000's election in Florida almost rises to the same level of election malfeasance.

Election interference is a Republican brand. Democratic caving in to or helping to hide same is their brand. Or maybe that's the "deep state". I don't know. But the worst deeds were done by the GOP, every time.
Republicans did not invent the idea of the deep state
Right now, the so-called "deep state" may be the only thing left that can snap a leash on Trump's collar. Their motive would be stability and protection of the economy. If they fail, much of Project 2025 becomes law-and the last remnants of the old republic may be swept away.

Nothing kills an economy like civil war and that goes double if blue states have to secede to protect women, LGBTQ folks, and migrants from Trump's jackbooted thugs.
If they have the nerve for it. But I was speaking of a concept on the left going back to Peter Dale Scott.
I've been doing my part in giving liberals that nerve. Reminding their story begins in revolutions tearing kings from their thrones...or, at least, putting a collar and leash on them. And these were not often peaceful revolutions. I have compared fascism to an aggressive kind of cancer, where beating it means not following rules because it won't.

I also remind them the governors need to remember the national guard answers to them first. And plenty of states national guard units are veritable militaries in their own right. Union with other governors and skillful strategy might allow them to win.

Small chance, but I suspect parts of the top brass might be planning to stage a coup to place trump and his cabinet under arrest as "enemies domestic". If this happens, and they succeed, they will likely call for an emergency election wherein Trump republicans will be barred from running.

This will likely be only an emergency coup, done as an act to protect the republic. Though I do not rule out temptations to become a caesar on their part.
