Starting the day with #CowFarts😎

"Your periodic reminder that a cow cannot add a single atom of #carbon to the atmosphere that wasn't previously removed from the atmosphere by a plant.

So, cows cannot increase atmospheric CO2, they merely recycle #CO2. It's not a new source of carbon.

And without #cows, bacteria would, over time, rot plant fibers and return the exact same amount of carbon to the atmosphere."

"Your periodic reminder that this is all complete bullshit.

Yes, cows don't synthesize carbon. Neither does burning fossil fuels. It's all about how much of carbon is in the atmosphere as opposed to on Earth.

And the reality is the immense amount of land needed to feed cows and other livestock holds approximately the equivalent of 800 Gt of CO2 less carbon than it would if it were in its natural state (accounting for the land needed to replace meat and milk in the global diet). That is over 20 years of CO2 emissions at our current rate and nearly half of the amount of CO2 pumped into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels since the Industrial Revolution.

And OPs claims about methane and also bullshit. Saying methane degrades after 12 years and therefore doesn't matter is first of all wrong - that it's half-life - and ignores the realities that a) methane is way more potent than CO2 in heating the planet, and b) that any change to the rate of production changes the amount of heating methane in the atmosphere. Saying methane can't heat the planet because it degrades in 12 years is like saying you can't drown in a flood because the water will recede in a few days.

Whether the bill in question is good or bad public polity is not for me to decide. But you can't magic your way out of the massive impact cows have on the climate and environment."
